Applications are now open to a limited number of Dogs for a special portrait experience. All breeds are welcome to apply.

Dog should be comfortable at the beach and have an excellent recall.

Selected participants will receive a complementary portrait session and a $195 image or artwork credit.

☕ A Cup of Curiosity

When you travel, do you ever skip the familiar coffee chain and find a little neighborhood café instead? I love doing this because a coffee shop can tell you a surprising amount about a place. Order a coffee. Find a table. And stay for a while.

Notice who comes through the door.
What are they ordering? Are people lingering or grabbing coffee on their way to work? Is it quiet or filled with conversation? What can you see through the window? What little details would you miss if you simply grabbed your coffee and left?

And, of course, look for the photographs.
Not necessarily the perfect picture of your coffee cup. Maybe it's the light coming through the window. The worn table. The person reading in the corner. The row of cups behind the counter. Those small details can tell you far more about what it felt like to be there than another photograph of the famous landmark down the street.

It's something I've been thinking about as I prepare for my upcoming photography workshop. Better travel photographs don't always come from finding something more spectacular to photograph. Sometimes they come from slowing down long enough to notice what's already around you.

☕ Next time you're sitting over a cup of coffee, look around. What would you photograph to remember not just what the place looked like—but what it felt like?
