✨ A Little Life Update ✨

Hi friends! I wanted to share a quick update since things have been a little quiet around here lately.

I recently had a back procedure and have been taking some time to rest and recover. On top of that, we also welcomed home our favorite guy after a nine-month deployment 🥹🇺🇸 So these past few weeks have been full of healing, big transitions, and learning our new routine as a family again.

I’m still working behind the scenes — editing galleries and slowly but surely catching up on messages. If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back, please know I’m not ignoring you! I’ve realized I haven’t been receiving all of my notifications, so feel free to send a follow-up message if needed.

One of those perfect fall days where everything just felt easy.

Golden light, crisp air, and a little guy who completely stole the show. Their son was beyond adorable, and honestly, the session just flowed because we followed his lead the whole time - as it should be.

So much laughter, so many sweet in-between moments, and a whole lot of love between these two. You can feel it in the way they look at each other, and in the way they show up for their little one.

These are the sessions I love most - relaxed, real, and full of heart.

I cannot get over how adorable this recent Gracie’s Corner cake smash turned out! The colors were vibrant, the setup was perfection, and the birthday girl had us laughing and smiling the entire time. She truly brought the best energy and made this session unforgettable!

As a homecoming photographer, the worst kind of news you can get is finding out two clients have ceremonies on the same day at the same time but on different main bodies. Add in a government shutdown where no information is being shared and FRGs are scarce, and you’ve got full-blown chaos. I was scrambling to piece together what I could and eventually had to break the heartbreaking news that I might not be able to make it to one of the homecomings.

But then came my awesome repeat client who completely saved the season. She passed along the main body info and timeframes, and suddenly everything clicked. Even though the groups were sharing flights, they were heading to different locations and arriving at different times. That meant I could be at both ceremonies. Talk about a huge sigh of relief!

Now grab your tissues. I’ve worked with the Loften family before when I photographed their youngest son as a highland cow (still one of the cutest sessions I’ve ever done). This time, I finally got to meet their two girls, who were just as sweet and full of light as I imagined. As soon as they saw the soldiers’ boots appear behind the blue curtain, they started bouncing up and down, waving their little flags with the biggest smiles on their faces, completely gleeful with anticipation. When the curtain lifted and they spotted their dad, everything else faded away.

The girls ran straight into his arms, and his youngest daughter broke down crying the second she felt his embrace. You could see his own tears start to form as he hugged them close. No matter how many homecomings I photograph, moments like that hit you right in the heart. You can feel the love, the relief, and the weight of all those missed days melting away.

It was a homecoming to remember, and I’m so grateful this family is back together where they belong.

Welcome home, Sgt. Loften, and thank you for your service. 🇺🇸🎗

After 9 long months apart, this moment finally came and not even the rain could keep it from being perfect. As soon as CPL Preston was released from formation, his eyes locked on his family as he ran through the crowd of soldiers, closing the distance in an instant.

Welcome home, Sgt Preston. You’ve been missed more than words can say.

HELLO + WELCOME

I'm Rebecca! I am a natural light lifestyle photographer specializing in children, families and couples. I currently serve the Rapid City and surrounding Black Hills area. I began my photography journey back in 2007 working with and developing film. After a few years I switched over to digital photography and have since pursued my passion for photography. In 2017 I opened my doors to the public and have been photographing children, families and couples since.

On top of being a photographer, I am also a wife and mother to two sweet and very wild boys. I love everything vintage, country and rustic. You can find me driving down dirt roads that lead to nowhere or walking the streets of old historic towns window shopping. I tend to bring my camera wherever I go - chasing the light around me and the moments I don't ever want to forget. I'm also a traveler at heart and cannot remain in one spot too long.
