Refuge in camouflage
A juvenile common garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) climbs and coils with the hope to catch some insects. A common myth around snake coiling is that snake is about to strike as seen in many tv shows. Many people get scared looking at coiled snake. Coiling helps in increasing the ability to reach the predator quickly but it also helps the snake to stay in safe body position.
