Transitioning from security in partnership to finding it alone, my current work reflects the power and uncertainty of growth by exploring new mediums and revisiting old friends. My selfish aim is to find cohesion and hope through creativity as it restores my faith in what is right about myself and the world. Highlighting subject
s that are overlooked; discovering the interplay between shapes, patterns, and textures; finding colors that blend according to their share of light, plus maybe a little humor: these always influence what and how I choose to frame an image. As with all art-making, digitally altering my photographs is akin to taking part in an improvisational dance with what is yet to be created. The result can be similar to the original, while other images escape the initial confines, becoming unique in their own right. Line art, another old friend, is a meditative practice as it centers and quiets my distractible mind. Making marks on a piece of paper reminds me that there are no mistakes here as I let the pen guide my hand. I am delightfully surprised at the serendipitous effects that can be produced with some paint, a binder, and chemistry. Dr. Joe Dispenza is quoted as saying that every time we learn something, we grow new connecting brain cells. Well, my brain must be getting an overhaul, because there’s always something new to learn about this extremely fun and addictive art form. My quest: Nurturing this living partnership with my art while trusting that it will continue to enlighten and inspire my work and life in the future.
