Top of the Rock is still magical in the rain.

Sneak preview for … Excited to get this gallery wrapped up and delivered!

Also… how about another lesson in lighting from this REAL wedding?! Weather and rain happen. Cold and dark skies aren’t always ideal but what can ya do except roll with it… However, this is why it’s critical you have hired a wedding professional who understand how to create light in the absence of it.

Majority of brides will send me a photo list of high points that it’s important to capture ( which is great and always welcomed) , but Katelyn only sent me ONE photo that she had seen that it was important to her that we recreate on her wedding day- and it was like that very first photo (which turned out gorgeous btw🤌) ! But I think what is really fun here is that every picture above is using different lighting… Off camera set ups, on camera flash, natural source, and complex artificial set ups that were done on the fly in total darkness and rain! And we nailed them all!

So again, I cannot stress enough the importance of asking your potential photographer about their knowledge of lighting and how they use more than natural sources to capture a day… Because trust- there will be a lot of time where that source dose not exist and you need to make due and still make magic!

That “flash” look everyone is asking for right now?
…It’s amazing when it’s done right. But here’s the uncomfortable truth most couples don’t hear until it’s too late.

Anyone can take beautiful photos in perfect light. Sunset portraits. Golden hour. Open shade…An iPhone takes great photos in those conditions.

The real question is: what happens during the other 6-10 hours of your wedding day?

What happens in dark reception halls? Indoor ceremonies?
When rain forces everything inside? And how to navigate these set ups in crowded rooms and in chaotic timelines?

Most weddings only offer about 30–60 minutes of truly ideal natural light. The rest of the day requires something else entirely. Lighting knowledge, experience, proper gear, and preparation.

This image wasn’t taken during golden hour.It was a real wedding. The room was packed with family and bridal party. Really bad weather forced us indoors all day.
A tight timeline with three locations between get ready, church ceremony, and reception venue.

Beautiful thing? …. We didn’t miss a beat. In fact if you looked through the wedding gallery you wouldn’t even know the circumstances at hand.

This is why comparing photographers primarily by price can be misleading.

You’re not comparing the same skill sets. You’re comparing someone who can photograph perfect light…to someone who can create light when it doesn’t exist.

And when artificial lighting is done wrong, it shows immediately.

It’s also why “flash” isn’t a trend, it’s a necessary skill set for any photographer who wants to cover weddings. It’s why you can’t compare a $500 photographer to a $5000 one. It’s not even the same conversation. Weddings don’t give second chances, and your wedding day is not the place for someone to figure it out.

So remember you can’t put a price on peace of mind. And trends are cool, but peace of mind is cooler. And it comes from asking the right questions up front. Not from putting out cattle calls in Facebook groups to see who will shoot your wedding for the lowest dollar. Especially when you use “inspo” images from a $5k tog, attempting to get the same look for $500. It’s a recipe for disaster and disappointment.

Is your sport/organization looking to level up your media day?
Let’s talk!

With proper planning we can often get a handful of different looks and setups with a single session.

A moment for the Veil…The Dress…The Moods… Or
just everything that comes with hosting a beautiful back yard wedding. It’s always so fun to work a space in multiple ways to convey multiple moods. And such a blessing for me to shoot in the spaces my clients love and are familiar with!

Sunset, but make it Black & White 🖤🤍🖤

Been a while since I’ve shared more black and white work. Sure that Midwest sunset (and the couple in it) was gorgeous in color, but I could shoot an entire day exclusively for it if I had to… that’s how much I love B&W

Beautiful lakes (and people 👰‍♀️ 🤵‍♂️) aside- your Missouri “winter” day can start at 70 degrees and no less than 18 hours later, end at 10 😂… Yep- 60 degree swings are normal sometimes. Just roll with it.

Little sneak from our session… but also sharing because I have a small admission to make. As most of you that follow me know, I’ve been doing this full time for a long time. And while my style has always been clean, true to color, and grain free: very little change in almost a decade of work. BUT- I mighhhhttttt have stumbled on some edits that I love for portrait work that has me in my film style feels. I came across this vibe when I was trying to build wall art for our personal home and I love certain aspects of it. So I have been sprinkling these in some of my gallery’s and I guess my clients like it too, because they’re buying them in the selection process 😂💁‍♂️

So I guess all that to say, you might be seeing more of it!
