An overnight storm dropped a couple inches of new snow creating some beautiful winter scenes such as NS 4597 leading an eastbound intermodal out of the east end of Allegheny Tunnel.

After spending the night in Salem, VA on the way to Nashville, I heard squawking on the scanner jumped on I-81, and went to check out what was going on at Singer. Imagine my surprise when I sent the drone up and saw NS 1070, the Wabash heritage unit, on the point of train 55W waiting for the clear to continue west on a beautiful Easter morning.

After waiting on the hillside with approximately 24 others for almost 3 hours (some were there much longer), the Empress finally made her much anticipated first appearance over Rich Mountain just before 11AM on May 22, 2024. A huge thank you goes out to he who won't be named for the vegetation eradication necessary to open more of the scene.

Turns out I didn't have to travel as far for my second chance to shoot the Northern Lights since they were visible in Central NJ last night. Unfortunately, people in this area aren't used to how to act in these situations and wouldn't shut their car lights off or face the back of the parking lot.
