The journey to Egmont Key located in the mouth of Tampa Bay with the ruins of Fort Dade that was used in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The lighthouse that stands today is the second lighthouse that was on this island as the original lighthouse built in 1848 was destroyed only months after completion by the Hurricane of 1848. This lighthouse was completed in 1858 to withstand any hurricane or war.
