Delta took full advantage of the warm weather on Sunday! She was excited to be back in the water chasing Ryder (who seems to hate the camera) and fetching sticks. It’s not often I get her to sit still down there long enough to take a portrait, but she cooperated this trip!

Here’s to some more spring weather coming this week!

Same camp, same photographer…. 5 years between these 2 photos.

I remember taking the first photo and just kind of winging it. Muddling through the post processing and editing until I got to what you see here. I was proud of that photo, but mostly because of what the camp means to me.

Fast forward 5 years to the second photo. This time I had a general plan of how I wanted it to look, the angle of the shot, and the extra experience and familiarity with my gear. I have learned that (usually) less is more with editing and post work, so I minimally touched it up and let the gritty/raw image speak for itself.

If you asked me which photo I prefer, I would choose the 2nd photo every time. But I never would have gotten there without the first. Here’s to learning and growing!

Ever wondered what your spot realy looks like from the ducks point of view? You’re probably not as hidden as you think you are….

I passed my Part 107 license (Remote Pilot Certificate) back in September of 2025, and have been enjoying flying my drone to get a different perspective of some cool wildlife habitat.

“What’re you looking at?”

It was a little too low-light to get the good, crisp image of this drake woody that I’d have liked, but I couldn’t help but love this photo. A flash of color among all of the tans and browns of the slough. I’ve never thought of a duck as aggressive looking, but this guy sure looked like he had an attitude!

Lophodytes Cucullatus — better known as The Hooded Merganser. A beautiful duck with a lot of personality. A group of 5 drakes swam just about into my lap Saturday morning.

Bonus encounter from sitting in the duck slough this morning. This doe was trying her best to stay away from him, but he had one thing on his mind. Super cool to watch the pursuit.

Rented a monster of a lens for the weekend to see if I could capture some wildlife. Hunting season is out, but photo season never stops! Had some cool encounters this morning, stay tuned for a few images!

Happy Monday!

Check out some shots of R***r, the GSP!

R***r was running around the dove field one morning and the “golden hour” lighting was spot on.

I love to capture hunting dogs in their element. Even if the hunt is a bust, they still love to be out there with you. It’s a good reminder that a hunts success shouldn’t be gauged on the harvest, but on the experiences and memories made.

TGIF, we made it! Last Friday I got to go on a squirrel hunt with some friends in Delta National Forest. Adam was bringing his treeing feist, Maggie, so I brought a camera along (you know, just in case..).

Capturing shots of a squirrel dog in action proved to be a challenge — they are ALWAYS on the move and typically hunting under the darker canopy of big hardwood trees, so good lighting was a hurdle as well.

Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

A little back yard session with Delta to knock some of the rust off of my camera.

I can’t decide which I like better — the action shot showing her intensity for the ball, or the portrait shot bringing out the best in her.

Which one is your favorite? Would you like to see more action photos? Or would you rather admire portraits in natural poses?
