15 years of Wiff! 2012-2026 ⚾️ one of my favorite parts of every tournament is hearing the old stories: catches in the pool, walk off hits, windows breaking.. some are better than others 😅

15 years of Wiffle Ball! Hard to believe. The 15th Annual Polfus Field Wiffle Ball Tournament was one of the most evenly matched fields I have seen, with Gruden Grinderz beating BD for the title. It was the first title for all of the Grinderz and the first t-shirt for most of BD. Dylan Gagne took the Home Run Derby for the second year in a row and there were 8 new players (and a few came back after a 10ish year hiatus) which is always really cool to have.

Every year there are more people on Friday night saying they need to go to bed early to prepare for Saturday, which might be a sign of getting older. But we still made it through a 12 hour day of wiffle ball. Thankful for all the friends that come together to make it happen. Until next year 🏟️

The sunset from English Bay Beach, a must-visit in Vancouver 🌅 hearing people sing and dance in different languages, seeing the big cargo ships anchor in the bay, and then obviously being treated to a nice sunset over the mountains created quite a core memory of the city 🌆

During a self-guided walking architectural tour of downtown Vancouver, we stumbled into the center of the fentanyl crisis in the city. Hundreds of people gathered on a few city blocks, with open use, police officers patrolling, and many in the position of what I came to find out is called the “fenty fold”, when the central nervous system is depressed so much that communication between the brain and muscles is interrupted.

The fentanyl crisis is not just in Canada, not just in the US, and is not isolated to a certain capita. Seeing it up close in person was eye-opening. Scary too of course. But around these people were several homeless shelters with support groups, a library with computers and resources inside with free-use, and countless people walking around with carts of food, handing it out. There is always hope. But it is clear we need to continue making reducing supply and supporting those who use a priority in the future.
