These messages honestly mean more to me than people probably realize.
I constantly receive messages from people asking photography questions, editing opinions, “I’m just starting out…what advice would you give a beginner?” and I just want to say I genuinely love it.
I’m not a pro. I’m still learning every single day. But if I can save someone a little time, frustration, or self-doubt by sharing what I know, I’m always happy to do it.
When I was starting out, I remember feeling like I couldn’t ask questions. It felt as if everyone was guarded, secretive, or worried about being copied. A lot of responses felt cold. It made something creative feel competitive, and it shouldn’t be that way.
I still come across spaces where beginners are made to feel like they shouldn’t ask questions and that never feels right to me. We all started somewhere, and nobody improves in silence.
Here’s the truth: you really can’t take the same photo twice.
Not the same light.
Not the same moment.
Not the same timing.
Not the same perspective.
Even standing in the same spot, two photographers will create two completely different images.
There’s room for all of us.
Community will always matter more than competition to me. I’d rather be known as someone who helped than someone who hoarded information.
So if you’re starting out, stuck, or second-guessing an edit, reach out. Ask the question. Send the photo. I’ll give you my honest thoughts and help however I can.
Let’s get back to enjoying the creative side and building each other up. 🤎📸
