April 2004, almost ten years ago, I entered into one of the darkest seasons of my life.. I was let go from a job, beginning the divorce process, moving into my parents house, & having no money. I had been a musician & working for churches my whole life & all of the sudden God had ripped everything away.. I had nothing. My heart would absolutely break every single time that I had to drop my kids off at their mom's house.. I seriously thought I was living in Hell.. But in that darkest of times, God gave me a gift. Before 2004, I wouldn't have ever guessed that I would one day be a photographer & a wedding photographer at that. God has a very funny sense of humor.. I moved out of my kid's house on a wednesday and my very FIRST wedding to shoot was that following Saturday. You can just imagine the emotions that I was feeling that day...but in the midst of the deep sadness, something inside of me came alive, gave me hope, told me to hang on because things WOULD get better. I found myself being caught up in this couple's lovestory instead of dwelling on the Hell that i was living in. And that's how it all began.. that's how I became a photographer. I fell in love with capturing people's stories, capturing their souls, their emotions & their beautiful moments. I look back over these past 10 years and am TOTALLY blown away at the places that God has allowed me to travel to capture people's stories. In fact, in 3 days, I leave for Maui, Hawaii for a shoot.. I keep pinching myself and asking "are you kidding me? is this my real life?" God is so good.. don't give up on your dreams..
