I wanted to share the cover of Bryce Canyon: A Photographic Journey. The image on the front is by Carol Polich. She captured the warmth and depth of Bryce Canyon beautifully. Carol is an amazing photographer and it has been a real privilege to work alongside her on this project.

For me, this book is more than just a collection of photographs. It is a look at how both of us see and experience the same landscape in our own way. Bryce Canyon has a way of humbling you with its light and silence, and I think that comes through in every page.

You can preorder it now through Farcountry Press or my website

“Cathedrals of Light” was photographed in Bryce Canyon during one of those rare moments when the sun cuts low through the hoodoos and brings the stone to life. The canyon glows from within as if each tower is holding its own flame.

This image is part of my new book Bryce Canyon A Photographic Journey published by Farcountry Press. The book shares my experience of light and shadow in this remarkable landscape and how it feels to stand in the middle of something ancient yet alive.

Sometimes a single moment in nature speaks in more than one voice. This image of a bison pawing the ground and bellowing during the rut carries a different feeling depending on how it’s presented.

Color: The original view, where the warm tones of dust and hide meet the stark prairie light. It feels alive, raw, and immediate — as if you’re standing there in the dust with him.

Selective Color / Black & White with the Bison Highlighted: A middle ground, where the bison retains a subtle presence of color while the rest fades to monochrome. This version draws your eye to the strength of the animal while still keeping the drama of the scene.

Black & White: Stripped of color, this version focuses purely on form, contrast, and mood. The power of the rut, the dust, and the primal energy come through in a timeless, almost historic way.

Each version tells the same story but with its own emphasis. I often wrestle with which one speaks the loudest — what about you? Which of the three resonates most with how you would want to remember this moment?

✨ Inspiration in the Stars ✨

Standing on the rim of Bryce Canyon as night settled in, I watched the hoodoos fade into shadow while the Milky Way began to rise. It always amazes me how quickly the desert transforms from glowing rock to starlit silence.

To capture this moment, I blended the last light of blue hour with the night sky above — a balance of earth and sky that shows the canyon’s incredible depth while revealing the stars in sharp detail. This image is a stack of nine exposures for the stars, paired with a carefully blended foreground, shot with my Nikon D800 and Sigma 14–24mm Art lens.

For me, these nights are more than photography. They’re about slowing down, breathing in the stillness, and letting the landscape and sky remind me how vast — and how fleeting — each moment is.

Cathedral Valley is one of the most remote places I’ve ever photographed. It’s a long drive down dusty roads, past nothing but sagebrush and open sky, until these towering monoliths appear like ancient sentinels.

Out here, there’s no glow from streetlights, no hum of traffic — only silence and the faint rustle of the desert wind. This image was lit only by starlight. For the foreground, I stacked several two-minute exposures to pull out the subtle details hidden in the shadows. The Milky Way above was captured with 20-second exposures to preserve the sharpness of the stars.

Standing here under that vast sky, you feel small — but also connected to something timeless. The same stars that lit this valley have been shining for millions of years, and for a few hours, I had them all to myself.

🌌 Alpine Reverie 🌌
High above the world and deep in the stillness of night, the Milky Way unveils its silent grandeur over this quiet alpine meadow. Places like this remind me that nature doesn’t need to shout—its beauty speaks in whispers if you're willing to listen.

I stood here for what felt like hours, surrounded by nothing but the hush of pines and the slow dance of stars. It's moments like this that ground me, that bring me back to what matters most—connection, stillness, awe.

Out in the Alabama Hills, under a sky just beginning to give way to dawn, I spent a quiet moment with Mobius Arch. The Eastern Sierra rose behind it, framed perfectly by this sculpted window of stone. I lit it gently from the inside, just enough to let the curve glow without stealing the mystery. Moments like this—still, timeless, and wild—are what I try to bring home with every image.

To celebrate Father’s Day, I’m offering 20% off all prints—including this one. Whether your dad is a lover of wild places, stargazing nights, or just appreciates the beauty of the natural world, now’s a great time to gift something meaningful.

🌌 "Stand Alone" – Under a River of Stars 🌌
Captured deep in the Utah desert, this hoodoo has stood against time and weather, watching the Milky Way sweep across the sky for millennia. I named this image “Stand Alone”, but like many artists and small business owners, I know we never truly stand alone — unless we're posting from a business page on Facebook. 😉

If this image speaks to you, help me beat the algorithm — like, comment, or share. Your interaction helps others see my work.

🙏 Thanks for supporting local art and following along on my nightscape journey.
