***In need of last-minute senior photos? I'm doing mini sessions at the farm through May! (Located in Heber Valley, Utah)***

These mini sessions were inspired by my friends' family, as they are struggling with food insecurity and housing insecurity. I'd like to send them some extra help. So here's where you families of seniors come in! You'll get 5+ fully retouched images for $75, and if you'd like to contribute any past that of course it goes to them too.

Here are a few from one of my personal favorite senior sets- the most wonderful subject and a beautiful day. If you're not a senior but still want to set something up, I'm happy to accommodate other types of shoots, please message and we can coordinate.

**If there is a cost issue preventing a senior in your life from getting their senior photos, please still message me! Kids deserve to celebrate the results of their hard work, and whenever I can I'd love to help document that.**

Life advice from goats:
Some days require headbutting. But just know, even on days that require headbutting... you look fabulous, you're smart and sassy, and lots of people love you just as you are (even on your stinky days).

Also, treat yourself to a snack after all headbutt interactions. Or any interactions. Self-care? πŸ€”

I can't convey the level of self control it takes to photograph a baby like Jimmy, those cheeks and teeny fingers and toes trigger my cute aggression so hard. He is so perfect, the impulse to just *peench peench* was so strong. 😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜…

"How long do you wanna to be loved?
Is forever enough?
Is forever enough?"

Parenthood is such a strange journey. It's both foundry and fuel, it tests and affirms. You learn (and re-learn, and re-learn...) who you are, and what you're made of, all while trying to support and protect a new tiny being, as they learn their own versions of the same lessons. For me, being a mom is both the most humbling and empowering role of my life.

I've had the honor of being friends with Paige and Riley since I worked with Paige several years back. They are, as the kids say these days, "couple goals"; I have no doubts that someday, they will be that old couple who are still completely enamored with each other. Watching that powerful love grow to include baby Jimmy has been so profoundly special- this baby won the parent lottery when he got these two as mom and dad. Baby Jimmy is now officially 2 weeks old, but I just had to share some of these πŸ₯Ή (and don't worry! I have permission to share some of Jimmy's earliest model work here too! πŸ˜‰).

β€œHaving a place to go is a home. Having someone to love is a family. Having both is a blessing.”

We took this picture at a beautiful cafΓ©, called The Milkhouse, at Homestead Resort. It's a beautiful old building that was carefully brought back to life. While of course the aesthetics sure help, what really made it special for this shoot is Paige and Riley's history together. Just a few yards away (and a couple years back), they shared their first kiss as a married couple while their loved ones celebrated with them. It only made sense to come back to document another first for their loved ones to celebrate with them... they're about to be parents! πŸ₯°

I've had the opportunity to photograph Paige and Riley several times over the last few years, and it's obvious how head-over-heels they are for each other. Being witness to their story has been such a privilege- I am always a fan of seeing good people find joy, and Paige and Riley are exactly that. So when Paige shared the news, I am unashamed to admit I cried like a millennial at that emo reunion tour. πŸ˜‚ But I couldn't help it-- love is beautiful. It's the point to all of this, in my opinion... to learn how to love each other, and to allow ourselves to receive love in return. Seeing this family build a home so full of love, now ready to welcome a tiny being of possibility and wonder, fills me with hope that sometimes feels so rare in this world.

Congrats, my friends. I can't wait to celebrate your tiny one with you! πŸ₯°

42 years. 4 decades and change. Forty-two. And counting.

I love new love, of course. I understand the excitement, the desire to celebrate finding a soul we adore in a mess like this. But like. Why no more couple photos after the wedding part? Not family photos, just partners in love.

These are my parents, I'll call them Mom and Dad (because I do). I've wanted to take their pictures for a while now, and I asked if they'd let me sneak some in this fall, as they celebrated 42 years married in October. I am so glad they humored me. I love these images.

Mom and Dad have raised 6 kids, (now Nana and Papa to 10 grandkids!), and built careers in the thick of it. Their promises regarding "richer and poorer, sickness and health"- over the years, all claims have been verified. Life is really good at that, testing your mettle. But after 505 months as a married couple, I find their photo gallery full of laughter and tenderness, respect and romance.

I didn't realize until adulthood how much a beautiful partnership really requires (and how much it can give). That there are only flawed humans in existence, and to love each other is an active verb, a decision of action. It takes dedication to each other, and to yourself, to build and navigate your parallel paths in a tumultuous world, and refuse division.

New romance is beautiful... but the beauty is the potential. And the potential? Sometimes it looks like 42 years (and counting) with your best friend by your side. 🀍

"I'm not dead yet!" -- Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Hi there. Photographer speaking. I am still here, but over the last several months, have had to focus on some health problems. Fun? No. But rewarding? Also no. πŸ˜… But still being alive is pretty freakin' sweet, right?? And I actually am improving these days! Yeah, baby! πŸŽ‰

From the beginning, this has been a fun way to express my love for art and for the magic of connection. I am scheduling shoots still (PM me if you need one!), you just won't see me pushing my page in all the local groups or running Groupons because honestly, I'm pretty happy with my people finding me organically. πŸ₯°

One of the ways in which I'm choosing to express my love of this art form is offering "rainbow bridge" sessions to local pet owners. These are offered on a "pay what you can" basis, because again-- yes my time and equipment are valuable, but this is mainly a way to express and capture love. If you live within 20 minutes and are facing an end of life situation with your pet, please reach out to me-- let's work something out.

So thank you for the continued support in my art, and have a glamor shot of our guy Andouille as a day-brightener!

"God forbid that I should go to any heaven in which there are no horses." β€” R.B. Cunningham-Graham

I love when the bond between a horse and their human is so tangible and deep. The parallel evolutions of humans and horses fascinates me-- equids predate hominids. And yet somehow, these creatures that outsize us, outmuscle us, and (if we're honest) often out-think us... became our partners. They fought our wars, plowed our fields, and carried our children to school. Humanity advanced with horsepower.

The dynamic is different now, in many places. Here, with hay prices going up, gas prices going up, land prices going up... horses are a privilege, and folks are reconsidering their priorities. In the harder moments, we've all wondered why we even like horses. Life would be so much simpler if we did not! We would have so much more free time and money!

But for some reason, some of us are born with the gift (and curse) of that calling in our blood. It's not something to be explained logically. Life just makes sense with horses in it. And without them, it loses color. Having horses at all now often means sacrifices were made (or maybe that you are a glutton for punishment, haha). If you weren't raised in a "horse family", doubly so.

It is an honor, knowing how cardinal that bond is, that I get to document the partnership that drive creates. Buck and Kayleigh are that, in the truest sense-- partners. Lead or no lead, he is her shadow. Occasionally, he would reach out to touch her hand or lip-rub her shoulder. Never disrespectful or pushy, just comfortable. The respect between them is earned and reciprocal.

I will post more from this session (especially because you've only met Buck, wait until you meet "Thing #2", he is SO cute! 😍)... but here are a few of my favorites.

Thank you, Kayleigh of KH Barefoot Trimming, for being a great hoofcare professional, horsewoman, and now obviously model. 😎

***If you have messaged me recently and I have not responded, thank you for your patience-- I am recovering from serious illness and am working on returning those!

Hello! I'm still here! You wouldn't have known it, because I've been in "essential operations only" mode for a few weeks, working through a personal loss. I had several people reach out to me about photos, and if you're one of those people and haven't gotten a message back from me yet, expect one soon!
And just for fun, here are some detail shots of my own Christmas decorations, because I love our house at Christmas just that much!

"A good man will take care of his horses and dogs, not only while they are young, but also when they are old and past service."
-Plutarch (who apparently didn't know about horse girls yet)

Ashley Simmons is a person of rare tenacity, loyalty, and humor. I have worked for her at Black Magic Farms Friesian Horses for coming up on 3 years now. I remember, when I first started at her barn, how dramatically different her approach was to running it than barns I'd ever spent time in. The focus is always the horses, with unparalleled dedication.

Xena Kismet came into Ashley's life 22 years ago, when she was just a weanling. When Xena was 10 months old, she slipped on ice and fractured her pelvis. For most horses, and most owners, that would mean curtains for competitive or breeding prospects.

There is a quote about how horses are mirrors, they show us what we give them. That is undoubtedly true in much of my experience- Xena's focus is Ashley, with unparalleled dedication. She is a mare of rare tenacity, loyalty, and humor.

In 2019, Ashley and Xena rode their last show at Prix St George, and achieved Xena's Sport Elite status. They ride together for leisure and exercise only now, though just a few weeks ago Ashley competed on Xena's son, Braegho, who has been working up the levels.

As you watch them together, you can feel the respect between them, the relationship they've built over 22 years of companionship. I can't help but feel honored to document a bond so sincere.
