I do have the very best models-these boys get me every time. Pro tip: when taking your family to get photos, change the narrative. Instead of whisper-yelling through clenched teeth, “We’re getting photos done today and you’re all gonna smile if it kills me!” Try hyping them all up with a side story like, “Who wants to pack a hot chocolate picnic and look for bugs under rocks by the bridge?!” 2 out of 2 Meyer boys say the latter is the better way. Hype the adventure, not the photos, Moms!

This week, I got to participate in a super secret surprise proposal at Alexander Valley Vineyards. Much planning went into keeping it a surprise and the couple was radiant!

I have a sad part of the story to share: after the couple left Sonoma County, they had dinner in San Jose (Millitas) and their car was broken into. The backpacks, containing the ring, were stolen, right before they were to fly home to Chicago. I can’t imagine the roller coaster of emotions they must be going through and I offered to share their story and ring photo in case anyone knows how to track this ring down. They filled out a police report and have the serial number of the ring. Please share and let’s see if we can make a difference to this sweet couple!

I became a mom six years ago. It was a bit of a rough start. No one really knows what they're doing. The difference now is I am not afraid of motherhood anymore. My kids make me laugh so hard every day and they bring out the best sides of me. I'm continuing on this motherhood self portrait project because I see this evolution starkly in the beginning photos and six years in. I also recognize that this might be the last time I'm carrying a little one on my hip. These boys are full on kids now and the baby days are long gone. :(

If you’ve ever worked with me, you know I ask a lot of questions in the beginning. I just really want to know you and your family and have a better understanding of your story. This way, we can plan together a session that fits you and it makes it more fun for me because no two sessions are the same! As I’m preparing your photos for delivery, tears steam down my cheeks as I marvel at how beautiful and wonderful your sweet love is! Seriously, it’s weird I know.

So thank you, friends, for entrusting me with this grand treasure of plant a small part in your big story.

On another note, I’m off for a quick (much needed) vacation after this spring kicked my butt. My kids FINALLY get to see their grandparents and I FINAlly get to ride the wind and waves for a bit.

You guys know that my aesthetic is all nature and joy. So when this senior came and asked if we could shoot out in the field and find some woods and flowers, I was all over it. She rocked this session and shines from the inside out. We finished with some dreamy photos in the river and the water is coooooollllldddd!!!
