"Why didn't you leave?" I asked, barely a whisper.
He didn't blink. Didn't look away. "Because you are the only vow I never wanted to break." My breath caught. And that's when I realized—-I wasn't trembling because I was afraid. I was trembling because for the first time, something felt safe. Not soft. Not easy.
But safe in the way a blade feels when it finally finds its sheath.
There was more I wanted to say. More I didn't understand. But all of it tangled in my throat like vines. So instead I looked at him-really looked—and let the silence speak what I couldn't:
I see you.
I feel you.
And I think I've been waiting for you longer than I've been alive.😭❤️🫶
