A Total Solar Eclipse occurred on April 8, 2024 and was visibile throughout the continental United States, parts of Mexico and Canada. The belt of totality was 40 miles wide and spanned from Mexico to Maine. This montage was captured in Burlington, Vermont, where totality lasted over three and half minutes.

21 June 2020's Annular Solar Eclipse (visible as a partial eclipse in Pune). Had an amazing time photographing the sun today, and I can't believe I pulled this off! The initial and final hours of the eclipse went uncaptured due to cloudy weather, but the rest went without many troubles.

This montage was captured with a polymer solar filter that only allows 0.00001% of the light to pass. If that low amount of light creates such intense photos, imagine how dangerous the sun is to the unaided eye!

The first full moon of the year turned out to be an eclipse! Penumbral Lunar Eclipses happen when the moon fails to align properly for a full eclipse to happen. The moon passes through the penumbra of the Earth's shadow cast in space.

The penumbra is the part of a shadow where light is only partially blocked. Its counterpart, an umbra, is the part where light is completely blocked. This eclipse came real close near the Earth's umbra, hence you can notice the moon is really dark in the top right corner.

The Great Indian Solar Eclipse

Luck exists. Just when I was about to lose all hopes, the sky cleared a bit. The sun was out for about two seconds. My camera just happened to be pointing at the right direction. Phew, I can't believe I pulled this off!

I was preparing for this event for about a year. I was dead set to photograph this eclipse. Not even clouds could stop me from taking this shot. If you really want something, you get it!

A game of shadows - Lunar Eclipses occur when the the Moon, Earth and the Sun align in space, causing the earth's shadow to be cast on the moon.

It looks more or less like a usual crescent moon, although the Moon tends to appear reddish during an eclipse. This is due to a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering. It is the same reason why sunrise and sunset appear red.

Ever felt real fear even when you know everything's gonna end up okay? I did while taking this shot. There I was, like any other guy with a camera, taking photos of this majestic beast. A minute later, he glances at me with those majestic eyes, and I could suddenly feel a chill throughout my spine. And then like a passing cloud, it all changed the very next moment. I wasn't scared anymore, and those eyes looked innocent, aged and wise.

In that second all I could think about was the movie "Life of Pi", when Pi's father tells him that he saw a reflection of his own in the tiger's eyes. Is that it? But then it struck me - not being innocent is a human thing, and all animals are innocent. A lion is innocent- even when it hunts down an animal - because it's his nature, and nature is always innocent.

Sunday dawn scenes - I was hoping to capture Venus and Jupiter up close but the horizon was too cloudy.

I settled with the Big Dipper instead. You may be knowing it as Saptarishi.
