there are few events I get to photograph that don’t get me a little choked up.

hearing how someone changed others’ lives or seeing love exemplified between people is a common theme as a photographer.

but this one? this was different.

capturing the retirement ceremony of Col. Mike Lewis meant the inevitable goodbye to a family who made their mark on my own family.

taking these photos got me choked up.

editing these photos got me choked up.

and finding the right words to commemorate a special day with a special family, who is now on a new chapter a few thousand miles away, is not for the faint of heart.

goodbyes are never easy, but how lucky are we to have people in our lives that make saying goodbye so hard.
