This time last year I was headed north after showing my work in New Mexico. I can't believe how much has changed since last January and February.

Say your prayers.
At a prayer shine in New Mexico along a famous old highway and in the middle of a chili pepper field is a a place where many people make a single mark.
Ritual. Faith. Hope. A mark born of sorrow or thanksgiving or habit. A mark born of intuition and fire and yearning.
A mark made by the knees, by submission.
Whispers, murmurs - words incomprehensible but full of devotion, contrition, pleading or promises.
There are other marks too: candle wax slipping off the alter and individual finger prints left in the dust but the marks of kneeling are combined. The kneeling is one mark. One affirmation. One presence.

I participated in a workshop and rubric study (I kept calling it a quiz haha) that focused on trying to understand what makes artists thrive. Interesting point - it's not always money... but money does play a role. Artists brought a few questions and problems and we all were able to share our stories in a nonjudgmental environment. One thing that was said that reminded me of my journey is that sometimes you must try really hard to see yourself or your problem from a 30,000-foot perspective.

I've been working on these lines of demarcation images... they remind me of fever dreams. This image is massive and I have figured out where or how to print it. I am excited to say that soon I'm traveling to New Mexico for a residency. New Mexico is a photography Mecca so I'm hoping to do some new work and problem solve this piece's presentation.

The image is a compilation of photos that I took from the airplane window and these images are of the harbor in NYC.
