Hurricane Waves at Sakonnet Lighthouse
My photograph is currently showing in Wickford Art Association's gallery exhibit "Behind the Lens" until April 12th in Wickford, Rhode Island. This framed and matted print is available for sale in the gallery if you visit or on my website.
Photographed on August 21, 2025 when Hurricane Erin pushed waves onto Rhode Island's shoreline, Sakonnet Lighthouse off the shore of Little Compton was hit with decent waves even at low tide time. On the beach you view the lighthouse from, there are large rocks along the shore where the waves were breaking on and creating a tall spray. With the goal to frame the lighthouse with the spray coming up from sides of it, I got my camera as low to the ground and as close to the water (without being hit by waves) to get the spray height lined up with the lighthouse combined with a compressed view on my telephoto lens. However, the waves hitting the lighthouse directly to create that large crash behind the lighthouse was not occurring at the same exact time the shoreline spray was. I then took the two photos containing both sprays to make a composite to show the full effect of the hurricane pushing the ocean towards land on that afternoon.
