ISLAND | SHIPWRECKS
On our recent flight, the water was in agreement with us, and we were able to view the wrecks around Russell Island, across from Bruckner, near Browns Bar, and in front of the Boys Club on North Channel.

From a birdseye view, summer is beginning to pop with emerald greens and aqua blues. From the NCYC to the Maybury Cut with a few other favorites in between.

BONAPARTE'S | GULL
"The image displays a Bonaparte's Gull (Chroicocephalus philadelphia) in its non-breeding (winter) plumage. This species is a common migrant and winter visitor to Michigan, often found foraging over open water above the Great Lakes." Interesting to see them in the early summer. I have been seeing them for a few months now. I don't recall seeing them in the past.

EASTERN | BLUEBIRDS
They are back and feverishly filling their nesting box. If all goes well, there may be offspring in four weeks or so.

THE | ROOKERY
A quiet stop on the way to our Mother’s Day dinner turned into one of the sweetest moments of the day. Watching the Great Blue Heron babies tucked safely into their nests was something I could have stayed and admired for hours.

The most I counted together in a nest was three tiny babies, and even more exciting, Great Blue Herons can sometimes raise more than one brood in a season. Nature never stops amazing me.

I’m already looking forward to visiting them again soon.

Some days, the most beautiful portraits aren’t posed at all.
They’re quiet moments of protection, patience, and unconditional love.
Watching this Canada goose shelter her little ones from the rain was a reminder that motherhood exists everywhere in nature, steady, instinctive, and endlessly devoted.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, and women who nurture others with love every single day… Happy Mother’s Day.

BIG | BIRDS
The lighting and setting was perfect for these portraits of the Great Blue Heron in his full plumage and the Sandhill Crane with all the tones to match him.
