I MESSED UP!
This is something I never want to have to post about because I’d really rather this be a success post but I made a mistake and I need to own up to it.
A few weeks ago I covered a dance recital for photography and videography coverage—- I took photos during the dress rehearsal and did the video coverage during the actual recital. I had an error on both sides so I feel awful but I do not want to hide this or “sweep it under the rug”.
During the dress rehearsal I brought my new flash (that I had used for a test round prior with no issues) and I couldn’t get it to fire correctly so I had to shoot without it. Because of this the quality is not up to my normal standard of work due to the noise/grain in the photos.
-As for the video everything went great except one file won’t open to be viewed and it’s a whole song and dance clip. I’ve tried paying for a recovery software and it is damaged on both copies of the files. In 5 years of being a photographer I’ve never had this happen and I have tried for the last day or so to fix it.
Most importantly I’m a mom too and I know how much the parents were looking forward to these photos and the videos so I’m incredibly sorry. I have refunded the photo portion in full as well as a partial goodwill return for the video but I know it will never be the same as actually having the footage. This may have never been posted to the Internet by anyone else but I didn’t feel good with myself to not take accountability.
My biggest fear for a while has been being “cancelled” as a photography business and I hope this doesn’t turn into that for me. I promise I’ll take this as a learning experience and do everything I can in the future to make sure this never happens to a client again.
To the dance company owner, the students, the parents and families I’m so very sorry!
If you are seeing this as a parent I’ll also offer 25% off a session if you’d like to schedule some dance photos of your child.
