It may feel like spring in many regions, but winter roars on in the Michigan's Upper Peninsula! Tahquamenon Falls is full blast surrounded by ice formations. This landmark is always kept open for winter visitors, but sadly, the famous viewing platform is temporarily closed for improvements, so it should be better than ever this summer.

Since FB is so bad with showing panoramas, I chopped this image up into multiple frames. I'm looking forward to making metal prints of this one!

Lake Superior pancake ice at the Presque Isle Black Rocks in Marquette, MI. While these formations are fairly common, I am always mesmerized by the patterns and colors. And while it would be a really dumb and dangerous idea, I wonder how people would do in a parkour contest trying to jump from pancake to pancake without falling in the water...

Winter is fleeting in southeastern Ohio, so it's always special to catch Hocking Hills in a good snowstorm with big ice columns and frozen waterfalls. A few weeks ago, I did another one of my hyperlapse hiking videos through Old Man's Cave, one of the most popular and scenic hikes in the area. I wish I paused more on some of the beautiful frozen waterfalls, but I think this still turned out pretty good. Hope you enjoy!!!

Entering the magical world of the Eben Ice Caves!

Formally known as the "Rock River Canyon Ice Caves", this small alcove located in Hiawatha National Forest between Munising and Marquette, Michigan, is a fun and popular winter attraction. Every time I visit, the formations are completely different, and this year's are exceptionally pretty.

When visiting, please be respectful of neighboring private property and be sure to wear MicroSpikes or other traction devices.

Winter under the Mackinac Bridge! The Straits of Mackinac are completely frozen over under the 5-mile-long bridge, and a bitterly cold storm obscures the view.

Another 30 seconds of calm at the base of Laughing Whitefish Falls. A lovely snowshoeing hike leads to this remote location. There is a magical world of delicate formations hidden under the top layer of ice.

A new icicle formation starts growing down from the cliffs right over the co**se of the previous fallen ice column. Hiking in search of ice is so much fun. Things can change quickly; just don't get caught under any falling daggers!

Hocking Hills is beautiful in winter! I was lucky enough to catch Old Man's Cave during a snowstorm. Here is the lower waterfall turned into an ice column during the big freeze. And since I've been really into the before/after photos, I tried to line it up with an older summer shot for comparison.

Nub's Nob in Harbor Springs, MI near Petoskey is one of our favorite places on the planet and night skiing is so much fun! A few phone snaps from sunset and foggy conditions later in the evening. This has been a great snow year. 🥰🥰🥰

Michigan... we have all of the cold and all of the snow! Seriously, it's been a fabulous (or miserable) winter (depending on your point of view).
