Torogoz Photography

Torogoz Photography Hi, my name is Amílcar Valencia. I live in Georgia, the Southeastern United States. Born and raised in El Salvador. I picked it up again during the pandemic.

I began my photography journey several years ago, but left my camera to collect dust for years. Birds have captivated me since I was a kid. I remember walking through a coffee plantation in El Salvador and seeing the Turquoise-browed Motmot or Torogoz (local name for this species) El Torogoz is also our national bird. My grandma used to put words on the various sounds the birds made, and that memo

ry never left me. Another bird that left me in awe is the King Vulture. My grandma sent me to bring lunch to my father, who worked in the corn fields. I had to walk alone about 2 miles, and I saw it, El Rey Sope, perched on a three. I am unsure how long I stared at him, but I couldn't believe my eyes. I am almost 40 now, and birds continue to amaze me. I have been taking photos of them in the past three years or so; here are some of my favorites.

It has been a while since I posted here. I had several busy weeks and hardly no time to do birding and photography. Here are some pictures I took in Austin, TX. An incredible 6 miles walk along the river allowed me to add several species to my EBird list. I am also proud photos I took.

It has been a while since I posted here. Life is been busy, but I have a few photos here of a birding walk at Legacy Park in Decatur, GA. This is from early February. The Black and white warbler photo reflect their particular behavior of feeding upside down. As someone always trying to capture something unique it was great getting this shot and made me think about perspective. This particular species moves constantly and it’s hard to get a good photo, so I was very happy with the result. I tried to frame the photos of the Red-shouldered Hawk with the branches and I think they turned out good. Happy migration season.

Here are more photos from my January trip to Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Tennessee. Every year, the community of Birchwood, TN, puts on a festival that draws hundreds of people to observe the eastern flock of Sandhill Cranes. The festival celebrates the more than 20,000 Sandhill Cranes that stop over or spend the winter on or near the refuge.

Every year, the community of Birchwood, TN, puts on a festival that draws hundreds of people to observe the eastern flock of Sandhill Cranes. The festival celebrates the more than 20,000 Sandhill Cranes that stop over or spend the winter on or near the refuge. We were able to travel in January and to observe these magnificent birds. We were also able to see a juvenile Whooping Crane. 👉🏽 Check out my Print Shop and get some of my favorite prints. Multiple sizes to choose from.
