Back in 2017 we had a partial solar ellipse visible in Maryland. And, I thought I would give it a shot (pun intended).

This was going to be a long day, so I decided to take the “set it and forget it” method. I connected my 600mm lens w/solar filter on my Nikon D810. I also used an equatorial mount to compensate for earth rotation. This way I should be close to center for each shot without having to recompose. Then, using an Intervalometer Timer Remote Control Shutter Release, I set the system to time and shoot equally spaced images. I would I only have to check centering on occasion. When done, all I would have to do would be to combine the selected images in Photoshop. Below was the result taken from this effort as shot from my backyard. Tomorrow’s eclipse, as seen in Maryland, will be even better than this. If you enlarge the sun in the center, the specs are sunspots.
