I truly cannot believe this is a week and a day away! I am so excited, humbled, and honored!
I would absolutely LOVE to see you all there! No cost, family friendly, just a time to come together and celebrate the gift of art! There will be light snacks and drinks.
A little about the show’s content and title. As many of you know, my mother died when I was a girl. Since her passing, I’ve grown in my love of photography. She did not enjoy having her picture taken; as a result, there are few photographs of her life. Those that we do have are quite magical to me. It is that sense of magic that first drew me to this medium.
Originally capturing landscapes and portraits, in 2020 I expanded my body of work as I began to explore still life photography. What I initially thought of simply as an experiment in creativity has become the truest expression of my heart and the grief it has carried for the last three decades.
The show was originally meant to take place last summer, but with the passing of both of my grandmothers in the spring, followed by my maternal aunt, I decided it was best to postpone until the new year. I had titled the body of work to be displayed before their deaths "Requiem in Bloom". Meant as an ode to my mother and all that her death and dying have taught me about life and faith. I could not have known how deeply the title and its meaning would resonate after a year marked by profound loss.
I pray the show will bring an awareness of the beauty to be found in our deepest sorrows, and the truth that our Lord resides even in the darkest of nights.
