Yesterday I visited the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle’s Nest), a place where history and nature collide.

Built in 1938 as a prestigious gift for Adolf Hi**er and a symbol of the N**i regime, it now serves as a reminder of a dark chapter in history. Yet standing here, it’s impossible not to be overwhelmed by the beauty that surrounds it.

This is where the gentle Bavarian countryside suddenly gives way to the dramatic Alps. Rolling fields transform into towering peaks that rise from around 700 meters to nearly 2,500 meters, creating one of the most breathtaking landscapes I’ve ever seen.

On a clear day, you can see for miles across Bavaria, and in the distance stands the majestic Watzmann, Germany’s second-highest mountain. The contrast between the peaceful valleys and the rugged alpine cliffs is simply spectacular.

History may have brought me here, but nature is what left the lasting impression. Sometimes I think God saved some of His finest work for Bavaria.

I normally don’t promote businesses on this page, but every once in a while I stumble across a place that deserves to be shared.

Today I discovered Kymsee Whisky near Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria. What looks like a small local brewery turns out to be a brewery, whisky distillery, restaurant, and family-run passion project all in one. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, who shared his journey and explained how Bavaria’s unique climate influences the brewing and whisky-making process differently than in Scotland or the U.S. It was fascinating.

The whisky is exceptional, the beer is fantastic, and the food is pure Bavarian comfort at its best. Add stunning views of the Alpine foothills, and you have an experience rather than just a meal.

If you’re exploring Bavaria, this is a hidden gem worth the detour. And if you’re looking for a unique souvenir to take home, a bottle of their handcrafted whisky might be the perfect choice.

Sometimes the best travel memories are found where the tour buses don’t stop.

After a four-hour bus ride, I’m back in Porto, right where this journey began two weeks ago.

Time for the before-and-after photos.

And what about that thoughtful pose in the last picture? Be honest… doesn’t it make me look smarter than I really am? 🤔🤣

Either way, the Camino has been an unforgettable adventure, and Porto will always be where it all started. 🍷🚶‍♂️🌅

I did it… and now what?!?

I made it to Santiago.

After 14 days and 366 km on foot, I should be celebrating the finish line. Instead, I find myself feeling a little sad that it’s over.

During the entire Camino, I woke up each day with gratitude in my heart. I met wonderful people, saw breathtaking landscapes, and experienced a sense of bliss that is difficult to put into words. For two weeks, life became beautifully simple: walk, eat, sleep, repeat.

The Camino helped me truly understand the saying:

“The way is the goal!”

But now that I’ve arrived, a new question comes to mind…

If the way is the goal, is the goal a_way? 🤔😳🤣

Maybe that’s the lesson.

Perhaps the destination was never Santiago.

Perhaps the destination was learning to enjoy the journey.

Today, on the Peregrino boat, they played the theme song from Titanic. I simply couldn’t resist having my picture taken in the famous Titanic pose.

Unfortunately, instead of a young maiden at the bow, you get an old fat pilgrim. 😄

The boat ride took us past ruins and the famous 12 stone crosses dedicated to Santiago, making for a truly memorable journey.

Fun fact: During the tour, we learned that Galicia is the world’s second-largest producer of mussels and oysters, surpassed only by Canada. That came as quite a surprise to me—I don’t exactly associate Canadian cuisine with mussels and oysters!

The Camino continues to educate me in unexpected ways. 🥾🚢🐚

One of the dangers of speaking Spanish on the Camino: not all Spanish is the same. 😄

A few days ago in Pontevedra, after a fantastic lunch, I asked for the check. The waiter smiled and asked if I would like a “chupito”.

Now, in Spain, a chupito is a complimentary shot of liquor.

My Spanish, however, comes from Mexico City. And in Mexican slang, chupito can have a much more… intimate meaning.

So I looked at the waiter and thought, “Wow, that’s a very generous restaurant.”

I politely declined and told him, “Dude, I’m leaving you a good tip, but let’s not get carried away.”

The poor guy stared at me in complete confusion before finally saying, “No, no… it’s just a drink on the house!”

After I explained the Mexican meaning, he nearly fell over laughing. We spent the next few minutes joking about how the same language can get you into trouble depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re standing on.

The Camino teaches many lessons. This one came with lunch. 😂🥃🥾
