"Temmincks Tragopan"

As seen at the Memphis, Tennessee zoo.

From Wikipedia: The Temminck's tragopan is a medium-sized, approximately 64 cm long, pheasant in the genus Tragopan. The male is a stocky red-and-orange bird with white-spotted plumage, black bill and pink legs. The male's display features include bare blue facial skin, inflatable dark-blue lappet and horns.

"MM" photoshoot.

Haven't posted a session in a while and no better time to start again than with "MM's" senior portrait shoot.

Had a great time photographing this beautiful young lady and leaning a bit more about her. Good luck this school year and college in the fall.

P.s. I'd choose "culinary" as a major.... cause people always gotta eat! 😉

"Pratt's Pano"

While on lunch at in Elgin, Il, I saw two mature and one juvenile Sandhill cranes drop down into the middle of an open prairie...less than 200' away.
Throughout all the years I've been taking pictures, I never had an opportunity to get closer than 100' away from a Sandhill before they usually bolted so I took this opportunity, using the "zig-zag" method of approaching wildlife, to press my luck and see how close i could get. During a 5-10 minute period, I worked my way back and forth toward the trio- careful never to appear approaching directly. At about 50' I held up, introduced myself by talking to them and fired off a few images. Pretty happy with the results. (I WAS a few minutes late getting back from lunch...but the boss 😉 didn't mind.)

"Painted Thistle"

Something different today...

I usually try to keep my tone-mapping to a minimum and more toward the "believable" end of the editing spectrum. Not so with with this simple shot of a thistle. My purpose was so tease out pleasant and interesting lighting, tones and forms with complimentary colors.
