A dream came true, almost. Leaving my families home in western PA, I happened to spot this Barred Owl posted on a cut tree at dusk. The light was perfect, my 200-600 would have been up to the task with plenty of light to work with… if I would have had my camera bag. The one time I left my bag at home to get a head start on charging batteries for an event the next day… I get to see almost a staged photo of an owl in perfect light.

Alas, my iPhone camera had to do the heavy lifting to capture the moment. All in all, I’m pretty impressed what the iPhone was able to produce! It’s far from perfect or what I wanted, but I thank God for the opportunity to be able to capture such a beautiful creature.

The Hunt Begins

I’m beyond honored to have been selected as a finalist in the 2025 GO Laurel Highlands photo contest. This image of a mature Bald Eagle taking flight over the Kingston Dam brought home a third place 🥉 finish against 600 plus images in the annual contest. The images submitted are all stellar and represented my home in the Laurel Highlands with incredible beauty. Thank you to the panel of judges and all of those who make this annual event possible! If you’re looking for somewhere to vacation in 2026, don’t hesitate to look into this breathtaking part of Pennsylvania!
