Anne Companion Photography I am a photographer in Hampton Va, offering both studio and outdoor portrait photography (studio hours by appointment only).

I offer newborn, maternity, children, family, pet, and high school senior portraits as well as professional business headshots. Anne Companion is a Certified Professional Photographer and holds the degrees of Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman from the Professional Photographers of America. She specializes in maternity, newborn, and children's portraiture. The studio is open by appointment only.

Tuesday Tips! Today's tip: Capture more than just looking straight at the camera!

That was a tough title to come up with, lol. Today I wanted to show some examples of photos I love where the subjects aren't looking right at me (and the camera) but being spontaneous or interacting with one another. In the first image (the two girls) I was definitely trying to get them both looking at the camera and smiling, but something I said made them laugh and I captured those fantastic expressions! And their parents loved it.

The two maternity images are directed spontaneity in that I gave them directions ("look at each other and say hi!" and "give her a kiss") but the way they carry those instructions out brings out natural smiles and shows the love.

The final image, my own kid! I'm pretty sure something their Dad said brought about this genuine laugh and even with the closed eyes I absolutely love it.

So whether you're photographing your own kids or you're a photographer working with clients, give them some free reign to look at and interact with each other, and don't forget the laughs!
