We had to move almost everything indoors yesterday, but that didn’t keep Anna & Justin down. Despite some disappointing weather (holy WIND, Batman!), they maintained the best attitudes and rolled with all of the punches like absolute champs.

I’m not saying their positivity made the sunset happen (or the Etsy witch), but I’m not NOT saying that…

Best wishes to the Powells! (No relation, but I’m claiming them anyway 😉)

Styled detail photos are great, but my favorites will always be the ones that happen naturally throughout the day. One sets the scene, the other tells the story.

Posed doesn’t have to mean stiff and awkward. Sometimes it sounds kinda like “Okay, let’s look out at these beautiful mountains. Now, hold hands and kinda canoodle in together. AHHH you’re MARRIED how do you guys feel?!”

None of that meant standing super still, arching your neck at a weird angle, or the ever-dreaded “look at each other and laugh.”

When it comes down to it, my best “posing” tip is to try your damndest to stay present in the moment, and you can still do that with a little direction from me.

One of the best things about taking more than a rushed couple of minutes for couples portraits is you get to actually DO THAT. Take a breath. Admire the view you booked in real life, not just in the photos later.

A while back, I had the pleasure of taking a private tour of the Commanding General’s Residence at Fort Monroe, and I’m finally getting around to sharing the content.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue in Hampton Roads that’s waterfront without being ‘beachy,’ historical without the ick, and a hint of funky character, this is your spot.

The Belvins just sold their first home for their forever home, and we took a few minutes to mark the occasion before they hand over the keys.

This was bittersweet for me, too. Becca and I were each others’ last “single gal” roomies, and she bought this sweet little beach bungalow not long after Dave and I moved in together. We’ve shared many-a-pizza in that kitchen, said our last goodbyes to family pets in the living room, and those walls know some things I hope they never tell. 😉

The goggles and donut float were paid actors for this session.

I love working with this family for many reasons, but one of them is that they let the kids be KIDS! We grab a couple of “cheese” shots, some “directed play,” and then we let ‘em loose.

Dream sesh. No notes. 🛟☀️⛱️
