I spend a lot of time telling people they need to exist in their photographs for someone who rarely makes an appearance in her own.

The irony is not lost on me.

So, hi. I’m Kali. 👋🏼

Photographer, creative thinker, business owner, wife, mom, and the person behind the photographs around here.

I own Kali Norton Photography & Design, based out of my studio in downtown Hammond, Louisiana.
My days are a mix of photographing people, developing creative concepts, helping businesses communicate visually, and navigating the unpredictable logistics of being a working mom.

I’m equal parts creative and analytical. I love the artistry of making photographs just as much as the thought and strategy behind them. I’m fascinated by how things look AND how they function.

A few things beyond the camera:

I tend to see potential in things others might walk right past. Old buildings, forgotten furniture, an interesting patch of light. A blessing and a very inconvenient personality trait.

I love interior design, gardening, and a good creative project. There’s almost always something being rearranged, refinished, planted, or reimagined around here. I’m also exceptionally good at turning a simple idea into an unnecessarily ambitious undertaking.

As for my work, it lives in two pretty different worlds.

I partner with businesses and creative teams to create intentional, strategic imagery that tells their stories and supports their goals.

And I photograph motherhood and families, preserving the wonderfully ordinary moments that become more meaningful with time.

Different worlds, same curiosity about people, what they value, and what deserves to be remembered.

Somewhere along the way, I’ve built a business that lets me do a little bit of everything I love.

Occasionally, I even remember to get in front of the camera myself.

Yesterday I wrote about what it means to make photographs without immediately asking where we’re going to share them.

And I keep coming back to the other side of that thought:
If a photograph doesn’t need an audience, what is it for?

Maybe it’s for this.

For printing.
For framing.
For putting on the walls of the home where the life in those photographs is actually being lived.

For your children to walk past photographs of themselves every day.

For the ordinary moments to become part of the rooms where more ordinary moments keep happening.

I’ve spent so much of my career making photographs that eventually end up on a screen.

And I’m certainly not suggesting they don’t belong there.

But I think somewhere along the way, we started treating the screen as the destination…

It isn’t.

Some photographs are meant to be lived with. 🤍
