Ellen Zangla Photography

Ellen Zangla Photography Anyone who knows me knows how much I love pets. I can’t walk past a dog without petting him or her. I absolutely adore cats.

Pet photographer specializing in outdoor dog portraits, including photos of dogs in action; family photos that include your pets; and portraits of other pets, including, cats, lizards, etc. And I have a soft spot for lizards; I think they’re super cool. I also love photography and started taking pictures as a teenager. In 2009, I merged my love of pets with my love of photography and started my bu

siness. As a niche photographer—all I photograph are pets and pets with their people—I am an expert in pet photography. I understand pet behavior, know how to get them to look at the camera with that “look,” light their fur correctly (if you have a black pet, you’ll know what I mean), and capture the relationship they have with their owners. I have a lot of patience, giving dogs, cats and other pets time to relax, knowing that it can take some time to get the perfect image. I specialize in creating natural and unique photos of dogs, cats and other pets. I photograph mostly outdoors (with the exception of cats and other animals, such as lizards, who may not go outside). My clients say that I capture the true personality of their pets, whether they’re regal and proud, funny or goofy, or somewhere in between. I believe that our pets are family members and that we should have amazing photos of them that we will treasure for a lifetime. And I love creating these images for people. When it comes to capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments, it’s important to get it right, and I have the technical and artistic skills to make that happen:

I am a Master Photographer and a Certified Professional Photographer, a designation less than 2% of all professional photographers have earned through the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). I have won numerous awards for my pet photography, including:

2018 PPA Bronze Medal Photographer of the Year

2017 PPA Bronze Medal Photographer of the Year

Portrait Photographer of the Year, MDPPA, and a Top Ten Animal Image at the 2016 International Print Competition

2015 PPA Silver Medal Photographer of the Year

Multiple other award-winning photos in state, district and international print competitions. I live with my husband, our 18-year-old son, and six four-legged family members (four cats and two dogs): our first set of “twins:” Alfie and Griffin, “foster fails” (they came home for a long weekend in November 2014 and never went back); Lola, a German Shepherd/Husky mix; our second set of “twins,” Panther and Storm; and Aeneas, a mixed breed puppy.

Two baboon moms running through the water with their babies clinging to them: the front baby clinging to mom's chest, the second one catching a ride on mom's back. This means they're probably just a few months old as they spend most of the first three months of their lives on their mom. Nice way to get around!!

Please keep Rooster's family in your thoughts as he recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I photographed him several times over the years, starting in 2021 through snow photos in 2024. Super handsome with fabulous ears, and he almost always had a smile on his face. He was so loved and will be missed. 🌈🐾

A few days ago I was walking Lola and Aeneas down the driveway when I noticed something orange on the boulder I use to photograph pets. It turned out to be a fox, happily curled up on it. I brought the dogs in, grabbed my camera, and got a few shots before he decided I was getting too close and took off. 🦊

Take a close look at the giraffe's neck and you'll spot a small bird along for the ride. That bird is an oxpecker, and it spends much of its time riding on giraffes, buffalo, rhinos, and other mammals, eating ticks and other insects.
A win for the oxpecker. A win for the mammal. A loss for the ticks.
And a win for the world, which, in my opinion, is a much better place with fewer ticks.

Hope you have as much fun this weekend as this young baboon did playing on the branch.
