The thing about a commissioned portrait, it does not have to come from a formal sitting or a posed session indoors. It can come from the life you are actually living. The place your family actually loves.

I photographed this family on the back of their boat years ago. Out on the water, right where they spend their summers together.

Then I decided to paint it like the old masters technique through projection and I love how it turned out.

I paint every piece personally. Every face, every detail. This family trusted me with both the photograph and the painting, and that is something I do not take lightly.

Make this drink for Memorial Day Weekend

Strawberry Mint Spritzer (makes one big pitcher)

4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
Juice of 2 limes
A small handful of fresh mint
1 bottle of sparkling water or club soda

Optional: a shot or two of vodka or tequila.

Blend the strawberries until smooth, strain it, pour it over ice, squeeze in the lime, toss in the mint and the sparkling water.
