A year and a half ago, I told you about a lightening storm that damaged the bell ringing system at Guthrie Oklahoma's Catholic Church, Saint Mary. Last week her bells returned! Located in one of the town's historic neighborhoods, Fogarty Heights, the church's ring may be heard a mile away.

Listen for the schedule:
On the hour, multiple rings denoting the time. One ring on the half hour.
Multiple faster rings for the Angelus prayer at noon, 3pm, and 6pm. As well as announcing the start of a wedding.
And multiple slower, somber rings before a funeral.

Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, the final installments of the St. Mary Church remodel have arrived from Italy. Taking half a year on special commission from sculpture house Ferdinand Stuflesser 1875 , these wooden statues are a tribute to Mary's holy parents.

68 years ago a black Oklahoman teacher brought more than a dozen black youth to a segregated drugstore lunch counter, and after being refused service, they made history with a sit-in that sparked a peaceful movement of civil disobedience.

Last year, with private funding, Oklahoma City hosted the site for these life-sized bronze sculptures to commemorate this significant piece of the civil rights movement.

Located in Downtown OKC, anyone may walk amongst these figures frozen in time. In their presence, you can feel the resolve of these intrepid souls.

In today's homily our pastor revealed why he chose gold leafing for the apse in our newly renovated church. One of the Virgin Mary's many names is "House of Gold". She is the new ark of the covenant. Both old and new... sacred and made of gold, holding the Presence of God.

August 5 is the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. Regarded as the mother of all Mary Shrines, it was constructed in the 5th century, the same period the Catholic Church gave Mary the title Mother of God.

If walls could talk, I'm sure some in Guthrie would say ghosts would ignite tall tales. I'd say for the past 100 years this home has held elegant smoke-filled flapper parties, a soldier returing from war, a mom in her 50s house dress dusting furniture, teenagers crammed in a VW bug waiting for their friend to come outside, Madonna's Material Girl blaring from one of the three bedrooms, a few folks glued to the box tv watching footage of the Simpson trial, the OKC bombing, and 9/11. Prom pictures at the foot of the sweeping stair case and empty-nesters refusing to downsize.

For Sale-As Is in Guthrie OK. Over 4000 square feet! Yes, it is outdated in good and not so good ways. $389,000

I am not the realtor... just an open house connoisseur of sorts.
