Lady 🐕crushed her photo shoot! Her humans did pretty good too. 😉 It was so fun getting to spend some time with Allie and Frank for their engagement shoot in Crested Butte! So excited to do another wildflower session with them this summer and their wedding this fall!

Happy anniversary Michelle and Chad! Finding a photographer who wants to shoot in Crested Butte is pretty dang easy! You’ll probably find plenty who will be totally down to come from another state, only charging the bare minimum, for the opportunity to shoot in Crested Butte. This can be tempting because who doesn’t want to save money!? I actually totally get it! I’ve been where you are before. 😅
Story time: I hired a photographer from another state for my own wedding 11 years ago (before I became a photographer myself). She was looking to put some mountain wedding content in her portfolio and I was looking to book with a photographer who didn’t “cost an arm and a leg” 🥴. I liked what I saw of her work and she was super affordable, about half the cost of local photographers and no travel fees! I thought I had scored! While she was great to work with and her work was beautiful, there were a couple of reasons I should have looked for and booked a local photographer. 1. Due to her living in in another state, she couldn’t do actual engagement photos. She did give us an additional “engagement session”, which I really appreciated, but it had to take place two days before our wedding.
2. She had no knowledge of the Crested Butte backcountry and my knowledge was limited at that time so I spent A LOT of time the week of our wedding scouting locations for our bridal photos.
3. While I loved the composition of the photos, moments she captured and talent she possessed, I didn’t like the way she edited our photos. This one was totally on me! Her style just wasn’t what I was drawn to. I should have researched more. She didn’t have any mountain location photos in her portfolio and with my limited understanding (at the time) of what goes into creating the look that I was looking for, I didn’t have a concept of her editing style or understand that it was different then what I was drawn to. Bottom line, I should have hired a local photographer who could offer local expertise and an editing style that I loved. Do yourself a favor and don’t make the same mistake I did. There is so much value in hiring local experts! 🫶🏻 🙌🏻

Mel and Randy had a stunning micro wedding ceremony at the Woods Walk in Crested Butte, but when the weather turned a bit more mountain autumnesque than we hoped, we ran over to the AMAZING Airbnb that they were staying at. One of the best things about eloping in the mountains is opting out of the months or even years (hello stress!) of planning generally required for a larger more traditional wedding! Amanda was a very organized bride who reached out to me in April and we planned and executed an incredibly detailed and beautiful day for her and Brad in just 3 months. How did their day turn out? I’d say pretty dang epic! 🤩. Thinking of eloping this summer? It’s totally doable!
