"It's Not Snowflake!"

After the Marine Life Oceanarium was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, a desperate search attempt was made to find the missing dolphins that called the aquarium home. 12 days after the storm, the staff was able to use a boat owned by NOAA, and found the dolphins adjacent to the harbor where the Oceanarium was located! They were transported to pools at the Seabee Base in Gulfport, where they stayed for several months until they received a clean bill of health! (Full story link below)

'Little Rock Nine'

Before their first day of school in 1957 after desegregation was enforced, the "Little Rock Nine" were blocked entrance by a violent mob of over 1,000 white protesters. The next day, President Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered 1,200-man 327th Airborne Battle Group to es**rt the students into the school. This was the nations first important test for the implementation of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision of 1954.

'Bright Angel'

The upper part of the Bright Angel Trail was originally built by the Havasupai people for access to the perennial water source of Garden Creek. In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt ordered them to leave the area, to make way for a park, although it was not until 1928 that the last Havasupai were forced out by the National Park Service.

'Humahuaca'

Quebrada de Humahuaca is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Northwest Argentina. It is a stunning display of colorful sedimentary rock, with the colors and layers indicative of the depositional environment and mineralogy. The red layers seen here are due to the presence of iron-rich minerals such as hematite, and were deposited under marine or fluvial conditions.

'Reach for the Sky'

The name 'Joshua Tree' was given by a group of mid-19th century Mormon settlers who crossed the Mojave Desert and thought that the tree's distinct shape reminded them of a Biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer.

'Bridge Over Troubled Water'

Barmouth Bridge has one of the longest timber viaducts still in regular use in Britain. In 1946, the bridge avoided catastrophe after a live naval mine washed ashore and swept one of the pillars, but luckily did not detonate.
