Just saying… it hits different when your redwoods elopement photographer actually LIVES in the redwoods and knows them like the back of her hand 😉🌲 planning a small wedding in the redwood forest

James, what makes you think I would ever listen to someone who calls me a moron? 🤔

It’s crucial now more than ever to stay vigilant and work on building the muscle required of us all that is civic participation. The only way our country has changed is when the people demanded it loudly and consistently enough. Democracy is not a spectator sport ✊🏻🇺🇸

Hi, I'm Meg 👋🏻 — if you're new here (or you just forgot who you were following), let me save you the website scroll with a quick 2-min intro:

I'm an elopement photographer & experience designer/planning guide based in Northern California, which means I spend a lot of time in nature helping couples have a wedding day that genuinely feels like them. Not the Pinterest version of them or the version their families were picturing. The real one — the elevated adventure-with-your-favorite-person version that most people don't even know they're allowed to want until someone like me shows them it's an option.

What I actually do goes pretty far beyond showing up with a camera. I help couples figure out where they want to get married (including the specific trails and lookouts), how to navigate the family dynamics piece, and how to actually be present on their wedding day instead of just getting through it.

Outside of work I'm pretty low-key: I live two miles from a state park redwood grove (where the 3rd pic was taken) and consider that a personality trait; I have 3 cats, a husband who mountain bikes obsessively (and often competitively; yes he’s very good), and so far have logged 350+ hours in Hogwarts Legacy on four play-throughs because the art and nostalgia of it is just that enticing. I’ve made my coffee on the stove every day for a decade. I spend 2 hrs every Saturday at a knitting group because I love hanging out with other fiber artists.

I spent a long time keeping this account pretty curated and I'm actively trying to loosen that up and be more honest about who I actually am versus what looks good in a grid, because I think it’s important to really know me if you’re interested in having me witness and document your wedding.

So if you're here for the elopement content, great — but fair warning that you're also going to get a sprinkle here & there of the rest of my life. I’m not really sure yet what form that’s going to take (maybe some camera roll dumps or random things I’m ruminating on) but that’s kind of the point. I’ve had a plan here for so long that it’s time to put it down and embrace spontaneity.

Glad you found your way here. Stick around. 🥰

Shot this romantic 'just because' couples session last weekend and I can't stop thinking about it. Yes, the forest light really was this magical, and honestly, you haven't seen nothin' yet. Watch this space for the *really* epic light shots. 🤯☀️🌲✨

As we walked on the trail, Diana asked whether I'd grown up here; I grew up nearby in Marin, and when she followed up with what I thought the biggest difference between the two counties was, I answered with one word: "Nature."

Sonoma County has a whopping 11 state parks and preserves compared to Marin's 6 (regional parks are roughly equivalent), and the sheer diversity here is unmatched, which is why I love it so much. There's just so much to explore and see. 🩵

“We can just wing it” are probably the most expensive four words in the elopement world.

Not expensive because you’ll blow your budget (though you might), but expensive because you’ll spend your wedding day managing logistics instead of living it.

I see it all the time: couples who think skipping the big venue means skipping the need for a plan. And then three weeks before their “simple” ceremony, they’re frantically googling permit requirements at 2 AM and having mild panic attacks about what happens if it rains.

Here’s the thing—eloping *can* be intuitive and flowing and magical. But that magic happens when someone else is handling the “what if the trail is muddy” and “where do we go to the bathroom” questions.

You know what’s actually intuitive? Trusting your gut about what kind of day would feel most like you. Everything else? That’s where experience comes in handy (and you probably haven’t done this before — but I have!).

Because the goal isn’t to prove you can figure it all out yourself. The goal is to actually enjoy the day you’re promising your life to another human being.

Just some food for thought,
xx

The secret most couples discover too late: rushing through your elopement is the opposite of what you actually want.

After photographing dozens of couples over the years, I’ve noticed something counterintuitive - booking MORE time actually creates LESS stress.

When you have the entirety of your day documented (or even multiple days!), something magical happens. You stop watching the clock. You fully immerse in each moment. You create space for both the planned moments and the spontaneous ones.

That’s why I’ve structured my approach around expansive, unhurried celebrations. Not because it’s more photography hours, but because it transforms your entire experience.
My past couples often tell me: “We were shocked how fast the day went by, but knowing we had the whole day helped us feel relaxed and unrushed.”

So I’m curious - without time constraints, what would your dream elopement experience include? Drop your vision in the comments below! ✨

First look... with a twist 😎👇⁣

Sharing a first look with your partner on your wedding day is a super popular and common choice these days; some people even want to do first looks with a parent, sibling, or a best friend. ⁣

But have you ever thought of doing a JOINT-PARTNER first look with your guests?? 😍⁣

I'll be honest, I hadn't either until the morning of these two's elopement and they told me they'd decided to switch up their plans: from sharing a first look with one another to getting dressed and surprising their guests together with both of their wedding outfits!⁣

I mean, can you even?? I freakin loved this piece of their day; it was so special to greet their people at the start of the day like this. brb while I tell EVERYONE about this idea (you're welcome).⁣

Would you have a joint first look with your partner and guests? Any other fun ideas you want to share with the class that you've been hiding up your sleeve?? 😉
