For those of you who know me personally, many of you already know that my stepfather, Gary, was diagnosed with non-alcoholic liver failure.

Over the past six months, he has spent most of his time in the hospital, including multiple stays in the ICU. He is now in hospice, and our family is facing the very difficult reality of what comes next.

I’ve started a GoFundMe to help my mother with the overwhelming hospital expenses, as well as Gary’s funeral and burial costs. Any amount helps, and if you’re unable to donate, sharing the fundraiser would mean just as much to us.

More evidence from the Laura Dark archives that apparently I have never had any intention of taking normal pictures. 😂

This one goes WAY back.

The incredible biomechanical body paint was created by Pashur, and I photographed it and finished the image in post.

Going through these old files has been weird. Some of them need to be quietly buried and never spoken of again. Some make me look at my old editing and go, “Oh honey, no.” 😂

And then I find images like this and realize that even though the technical side of my work has changed enormously, the basic thought process really hasn’t.

Elaborate makeup. Strange hair. Body art. Dark concepts. Weird s**t everywhere.

Apparently the Laura Dark formula was already well underway.

I have been digging through old hard drives again, which continues to be a dangerous combination of nostalgia and “WHAT THE HECK WAS I DOING?” 😂

This one is somewhere around 15 years old, and before anyone asks, no, I did not have a lion casually hanging out in the studio.

The lion is Photoshop. 😂

Apparently, even back then I was looking at a perfectly normal photograph and thinking, “You know what this needs? A giant freaking lion.”

The editing has changed. The equipment has changed. The studio has changed. My ability to make the insanity in my head actually look the way I want it to has DEFINITELY changed.

But the basic thought process?

Yeah. Apparently that part has been broken for a very long time. 😂

Something I’ve learned over the years:

People don’t book Greenlawn Cemetery sessions because they simply need new photographs.

They book because they’ve always wanted to see themselves inside the kind of story they love.

On October 31st, that story can be eerie, romantic, dramatic, regal, mournful, monstrous, or somehow all of the above before lunch.

I still have openings that day.

Did anyone actually grow out of their fairytale phase, or did yours just get progressively darker? 😂

I’ve decided this is simply the adult version: we traded the glittery pastel look for black horns, black lace, and a flower-covered skull…and called it character development.

That’s one of my favorite things about creating portraits. They don’t always have to capture who you are in everyday life.

Sometimes, you get to meet the version of yourself who belongs in the darker corner of a fairy tale, the one who is beautiful, magical, and possibly responsible for several mysterious disappearances.

If you just looked at this and whispered, “Ohhh…I want to do something like that,” I have openings in September and October. 🖤

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose fairy phase became aggressively gothic.

Photographer confession:

My October calendar currently has far more breathing room than it should, which is honestly bizarre, because October is basically my Super Bowl. 😂

So instead of simply saying, “Hey, book a session,” I want to know this:

If I handed you my studio, wardrobe, backgrounds, weird props, and slightly unhinged creative brain for the day, what would you want us to create?

Classic Gothic? Dark romance? Giant pumpkin-head chaos? Family portraits that don’t look like everybody else’s family portraits? A character you’ve carried around in your head for years?

I have room in October.

You apparently have ideas.

There are only two wolf dates left for all of 2026.

November 22nd and November 29th.

That’s it.

So now I need to know: if you were creating your wolf session, would you become a dark woodland queen, a mysterious forest witch, something straight out of a winter fairytale…or would you let me make it completely wild and dramatic?

If you have been telling yourself “someday,” someday has officially acquired two possible dates. 😂🖤
