Wedding photographer confession:

We absolutely notice when someone says:

“We're not really picture people.”
-Not this beautiful couple!

😂

Because then, somewhere around the reception, something like this happens...

A couple goes up for their cake cutting.

They each get a piece.

They go to feed it to each other.

Everything seems perfectly normal.

And then...

💥 CAKE. EVERYWHERE. 💥

They absolutely SMASHED cake into each other's faces. 😂

And you know what?

Those are the photos I want.

Not because they're perfectly posed.

Not because the cake was perfectly cut.

But because that's them.

The laughing.
The ridiculousness.
The “oh, you really just did that?” look. 😂

Those are the moments that make a wedding feel like your wedding.

So if you're worried about being awkward in front of the camera...

Don't.

You don't have to perform for us.

Just be yourselves.

🤵👰‍♀📸 Let's talk about something nobody wants to hear:

Sometimes the biggest problem with wedding photos has nothing to do with the photographer.

Here are 5 things that can make a wedding day much harder to photograph well.

1. A timeline with zero breathing room.

If everything is scheduled down to the exact minute, one delay can throw off the entire day.

2. Ignoring the light.

That gorgeous ceremony time you picked might not actually be the best time for portraits, IF that matters to you.

3. Trying to photograph 47 family combinations in 15 minutes.

We love your family.

But physics still applies. 😂

4. Forgetting travel time.

Getting from one location to another takes time.

Even if Google says it's 12 minutes.

5. Treating the entire wedding like a photoshoot.

Your wedding is not a photo shoot.

It's a wedding.

You should actually enjoy it!

A good photographer should be able to work with the day instead of making the entire day revolve around the camera.

That's why we spend time planning before the wedding.

Because the better the plan...

the more freedom we have to capture the unexpected moments when the day actually happens.

Things that happened at Ava & Kyle's wedding that absolutely should NOT have worked as well as they did:

1. The dance floor becoming complete chaos.

2. People making decisions that probably seemed questionable at the time.

3. The energy somehow getting crazier as the night went on.

4. Us trying to photograph everything happening at once. 😂

5. Ava & Kyle somehow managing to make all of it look completely normal.

These two were WILD.

And that's exactly what made their wedding so much fun to photograph.

Not every wedding is quiet.

Not every couple wants romantic slow-motion portraits and candlelight.

Sometimes you want your wedding to feel like one giant party with everyone you love.

Ava & Kyle definitely understood the assignment.

And yes...

Rebekah & Brendan's engagement session at Hartwood Acres was one of those.

The architecture.

The gardens.

And the way these two naturally fell into each other without ever needing to be told what to do.

That's one of our favorite things about engagement sessions.

Aimee & Zach got married at a private venue, Alder Acres, and spent the entire evening making sure nobody had a boring time.

These two were an absolute blast.

The kind of wedding where you know something fun is about to happen around every corner.
