I tell this family every single time I photograph them that I want to be adopted. They have not said yes yet but I am not giving up.

This is the second time I have had the honor of photographing them all together and every single time I walk away thinking the same thing: their connection is wonderful. The kind of love and joy that fills an entire field and makes my job feel less like work and more like I accidentally got invited to the best family reunion of the year.

They showed up in the heat. Full golden hour commitment, full trooper energy, zero complaints even when the Connecticut spring weather had absolutely no business being that warm. We waited for that soft late light and it gave us everything.

And then they hit me with the special request. Grandparents and grandkids in the front, adult kids jumping behind them. I cannot tell you how much I love it. That frame alone was worth every drop of sweat. 🤩

This was one of three extended family sessions I photographed in three weeks and I will say it again: extended family sessions are my absolute favorite thing. The chaos, the layers, the love between generations, the grandparents holding little ones, the siblings who haven’t been in the same photo in years. There is nothing like it.

Every single year. Every single year I do this to myself.

I am the person who cries at everything. Weddings speeches. Hallmark movies in November. That one scene in Toy Story that we do not talk about. Holiday commercials. So honestly nobody should be surprised.

But every June without fail I sit down with my coffee, open social media, and completely fall apart over graduation posts of kids I have barely (or never) met.

My own kids are currently fighting over the last mini pancake and arguing about whether we are watching Pokémon or paw patrol like this is a very serious life decision. Nobody in this house is graduating except preschool and yet here I am, fully sobbing over a stranger’s senior photo.

Completely unhinged. Fully committed. No notes.

But here is the thing. I see you, senior parents. I see the little league games and the school drop offs and the late nights and the early mornings and the lunches you packed and the homework you sat through and the hard conversations and the quiet moments you thought nobody noticed.

You noticed. You showed up. Every single time.

And now they are walking across a stage in a cap and gown looking like an actual adult and you are sitting in the bleachers thinking wait. Was that it? Did I blink?

You did not blink. You were there for every single second of it. And now the most beautiful and terrifying part begins: watching them go live the life you worked so hard to give them.

Let yourself feel this moment. You have earned every single tear. 🎓

The plan was content. The reality was everything else. 😂

It started with good intentions. It ended with a million of tabs open, a culled gallery, fourteen unread emails, a Flodesk sequence I swore I would finish last week, a client inquiry I stopped to answer because people come first, and yes, a client message that completely wrecked me in the best way and derailed my entire afternoon. Zero regrets on that one. 🥹

This is the part nobody sees. The back end of running a photography business is a whole entire second job. Editing, emailing, marketing, blogging, booking, invoicing, social media, newsletters, client prep, gallery delivery, and somehow also being a present mom, wife and a functioning human being.

The photos on this feed are the pretty part. This right here is the rest of it. And I would not trade it for anything. Even on the days I absolutely would. 😂

To every mom solopreneur out there doing all of this with zero instruction manual and way too many tabs open: you are not alone and you are doing better than you think.

We will try again tomorrow.

There is a love in these frames that I genuinely cannot put into words. I just know it every single time I see it through my lens.

This is what happens when a kid feels comfortable, safe, and trusted in front of a camera. They stop thinking about the camera entirely. And everything you see here is what comes out naturally when that happens.

Our whole job is just creating that space. The kids do the rest.

She has been dreaming of this session for years. Jeans, white shirts, timeless, framed all over her house. We finally made it happen and I am still not over it.

They walked in with the best smiles, trusted every idea I had, and spent an hour just having the absolute best time together. Laughing, playing, fully present with each other. I was just there to catch it.

That energy is everything. You cannot fake it. You can only show up and let it happen.

Hope these will be going on her walls forever.

I took this photo of my son last week and then sat in my car for a minute because I could not believe how big he is getting.
Nobody warns you that it happens in the background. You are just living your life, making lunches, doing bedtime, answering emails, and then one day you look at your kid and think: when did that happen? When did he get that tall? When did his face change? When did he stop reaching for my hand without me asking?
I am a photographer. Documenting moments is literally what I do for a living. And I still feel like I am missing it.
So this is your reminder. Not to book a session. Not to do anything. Just to look up today. Put the phone down for five minutes and actually look at them. The way they laugh. The thing they are obsessed with right now that they will forget about in three months. The version of them that only exists today.
That is the one worth remembering.

This one is for the small business owner who opened a local Facebook group and immediately felt sick. You scroll through and see hundreds of recommendations in your same industry. Same city. Some of them have more reviews than you. Some have lower prices.

And your brain goes: why would anyone pick me?
Here is the thing nobody talks about enough. Many industries are oversaturated. Photography. Real estate agents. Coaches. Contractors. There is barely a single field where someone is not looking at the numbers and thinking there is no room left.

And yet, people are still booking. Still buying. Still choosing. Every single day.

Because oversaturated does not mean overcrowded for you specifically. It just means there are options. And the person scrolling through that list is not just looking for the most popular one. They are looking for the one that feels right to them. Pricing. Style. The vibe they get from your page before they even click your name.

I am a big believer that this world has space for everyone. Not as a motivational poster kind of thing, but as something I have lived and watched play out over and over again in my own business and in the businesses of people around me. The right clients exist for you. They are out there. And they are looking for exactly what you offer.

But here is the part that matters: you have to show up for them to find you. Keep putting your work out there even when it feels like nobody is watching. Keep learning. Show up in the groups, support other businesses, share what you know, celebrate other people’s wins. The more you give to the community, the more the community gives back.

In photography for example, the family that wants bright, colorful, playful photos is not the same as the one that wants something moody and editorial. The client who needs to stay under a certain budget is not the same one ready to invest in a full experience. They are all scrolling the same list.

So keep showing up. Keep being exactly who you are, not a version of yourself that you think the algorithm wants. The right people will find you. The world has room for you.

Okay so I lied. It actually is sunshine and rainbows over here. 😂
And golden fields. And snowy mornings. And fall colors that make you want to cry a little. And spring blooms that show up every year like they have something to prove.
Connecticut in every single season is just built different.
This is what happens when you do work you genuinely love, every season becomes your favorite one while you are in it. Fall feels like magic until spring arrives. Spring feels perfect until summer golden hour shows up. And somehow winter always surprises you with something quiet and beautiful you did not see coming.
If you have been waiting for the right season to book, I have news for you. There is no wrong one.
