I've always loved looking through a camera lens & capturing amazing images ... after learning dark room artistry while living in Europe 30 years ago, I knew I wanted to make my hobby into a career one day.
While I worked in finance & sales full time, I started a side business taking Fine Art travel photography and selling my work in local galleries... a few years later I brought my camera to a friend's weddings as a guest, and ultimately she had me make her a wedding album with my pictures as she liked them better than the professional she had hired! 🥴😁
So...I was encouraged to try my hand at wedding photography.
I broadened my 'side hussle" and took on a few small event...and LOVED it! The energy, the creativity, working with happy people, bringing out natural smiles and capturing special moments - I knew I wanted to do this as my next primary job.
Once I became pregnant, I didn't want to work full time down in the city in an office anymore.... so in 2003 I took a chance and launched JC3 Photography. I focused on weddings, bar mitzvahs & other events - then several years later I was contacted by one of my brides to take newborn photos for her. A new skill emerged, and as more clients inquired about having me take family portraits, I branched out into offering studio & outdoor portraits.
As a mom of two boys, I loved how I could make my own hours with photography & still be a full hands-on parent...watching my kids grow, and interacting with their classmates as a school room parent (yep, every grade for each of my boys up to Middle School!!)
My business naturally gravitated away from weddings to focus more on child & family portrait photography....then came corporate portraits and ultimately High School senior photography.
In my 23 years as a professional photographer I've met so many amazing people, nurtured my creativity (and also quite an extensive camera/ lens /studio lighting collection LOL) l, and built fantastic relationships with my clients...many of whom I now consider close friends. I am honored that so many come back to me year-after-year continuing to hire me to capture the special moments in their lives. What a privilege. I turned a hobby & love of photography into a career and successful business.... how lucky am I!?
Now that both my boys are graduated and we are empty-nesters, my husband Tony & I are fulfilling another dream and moving permanently up to Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire. I have thought long and hard and I know that it is time to step away from photography...to focus on new experiences and new hobbies. Who knows with this new chapter will bring, but I am excited to find out!
