My number one tip on your wedding day: take 5 minutes alone to enjoy sunset. šŸ’•šŸŒ…

Our couples prioritize time with their guests, but they also prioritize time together. Taking just 5 minutes to step away once dinner is served or during cocktail hour gives you a moment to pause together…reflect on the momentous occasion, and just share a tiny slice of your day alone. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a single newlywed couple who has regretted taking a moment alone šŸ’•

Bonus: it’s the best light of the day and perfect for a few romantic photos, but really this is just a time for you to enjoy being married!

Paris is one of those places that always looks beautiful no matter what, but photographing it well…can be a challenge!

Follow along as I share about the process involved in planning an upcoming destination engagement session in Paris! From location scouting, wardrobe planning, and all my tips and tricks…we do a lot to prepare.

Having someone familiar with the city always helps (I’ve visited Paris many times and lived there briefly šŸ‡«šŸ‡·šŸ’•) so the couple can rest easy knowing that they have someone experienced to guide them. It’s not just an engagement/anniversarytrip for them, but a memory itself, and I’m so glad they will be able to have it captured beautifully!

Stay tuned for more next week from Paris! šŸ‡«šŸ‡·āœˆļøšŸ„°

Paris is one of those places that look beautiful no matter what. But photographing it well…can be challenging.

Follow along as I share some of the process involved in planning an upcoming destination engagement session in Paris - from location scouting (hint…having someone who is familiar with the city helps!) to outfit recommendations and little tips and tricks.

I’ve visited Paris many times and actually lived there briefly (you wouldn’t know by my horrible French though šŸ‡«šŸ‡·šŸ«£šŸ„°) so the best part of this whole experience is this couple knows that they aren’t just going to have an amazing time on their anniversary/engagement trip, but they will have beautiful photographs to remind them of it all too šŸ’•

Can’t wait to share more next week! šŸ“øāœˆļøšŸ’•

They’ve been dreaming of this day too. 🄺 I guarantee the first time you told them about that new special someone that is now your fiancĆ©, they started envisioning it. What this day would be like…and now it’s here!

Each of these special moments for Paige & Christian involved their family and closest friends, something that was a huge priority to them. Our couples often have very close relationships with their parents, and making sure we highlight that throughout our imagery is always a joy for me because I just LOVE anything having to do with tear jerker parent moments. Paren-child dance always gets me every time! šŸ„ŗšŸ’•

Same venue, same photographer…15 years apart. Swipe for a flashback!

It’s pretty incredible to see what trends have come and gone, how styles have evolved, changed, adapted. The mason jar craze of 2011 came and went just like so many other trends will.

It’s also amazing to think of how much I’ve learned since I took that first photograph. Not just the technical aspect (the amount of photoshop that went into that first one vs getting it right in camera šŸ˜–) but also about how to truly connect with couples, prioritizing the right things, celebrating the wins, finding the joy in little moments, knowing what is going to be valuable down the line, understanding how a wedding day can flow well, partnering and working with planners and vendors, understanding light…the list is endless.

I look back at the photographer who took that second photo and just want to tell her to keep going, do your best, you’ll get there. Don’t give up on the dreams. Keep learning - never stop growing. Try things, but never forget who you are or what you value šŸ’• Keep caring for people, because it will be the thing that matters most. šŸ’•

šŸŽ“Calling class of 2027! We are starting to book senior sessions and it is not too early!

I am locally based here in Grinnell, but our team also photographs sessions in Des Moines, Newton, Pella, and Iowa City.

With 15+ years of experience, knowledge of yearbook deadlines and requirements, locations, and products to help you remember this final year (and not just have photos on your phone ) we want to ensure you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your senior photos. For many families this is the last opportunity for family portraits too, so ask us about adding those on - you won’t regret it!

One of the questions couples often ask is why I recommend having a second photographer.

Of course it allows us to capture more moments, different perspectives, and more candid reactions throughout the day. But the biggest reason is actually **peace of mind**

Your wedding day only happens once. There are no do-overs.

Having two photographers means there are always **two professionals documenting the day, two cameras, and two sets of images being captured at the same time.** It’s the best built-in backup for something this important.

It also allows us to capture moments happening simultaneously — like one of you walking down the aisle while the other’s reaction is being photographed.

More coverage.

More perspective.

And the confidence that your memories are being protected.

We always chat with couples about whether or not a second photographer is the right fit, and for 85% of our couples, the answer is yes. If you’re not sure, leave a comment or send a DM! I’m happy to chat through it with anyone!

What our couples prioritize - intentionality, love for their family, and definitely travel! šŸ’•āœˆļøšŸŒ„šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹šŸļøšŸ‡«šŸ‡· You all have this in common.

Recently I’ve talked with several 2026 and 2027 couples and MANY of you were dreaming of a destination wedding, but ultimately moved your event closer to home for the sake of your family. 🫶 One bride shared, ā€œWe are having our dream destination wedding…at home in the Midwest. So my grandma can be there.ā€ It will be intentional, full of connected experiences, beautiful and immersive, and fully reflecting the couples love of historic architecture and incredible food and wine. šŸ· If that’s not a dream day, I don’t know what is.

If you’re planning your 2026/2027 wedding and this is sounding familiar…reach out. Chances are good you’ve found your šŸ“ø where you’ll feel right at home, and we’ll get along great sharing travel secrets and favorite restaurants we love.
