Engagement session tips from your photographer:

Choose somewhere fun: Pick a location that feels like you two! Whether it’s a place that’s special to your relationship or somewhere new and fun, choose a spot where you can be yourselves.

Choose clothes you can move in:
You’ll be walking, sitting, hugging, and probably doing a little dancing! Wear something you feel confident and comfortable in so you can move naturally and enjoy your session.

Relax and trust the process:
You don’t have to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. That’s what I’m here for! Just focus on each other, have fun, and let the little moments happen naturally.

Your engagement session doesn’t have to feel like a big photoshoot. The best photos often come from simply being yourselves, having fun together, and enjoying this season of life.

A few things I want every Iowa wedding couple to know before the wedding day 🤍

The little details matter. And the goal isn’t to have a “perfect” wedding day—it’s to feel present enough to actually enjoy it.

PACKING DETAILS 💼
• Remove tags from anything you want photographed
• Place your details in boxes or bags so everything is together and easy to grab
• When in doubt, overpack. It’s much easier to have something and not need it than wish you had it
• Keep all the rings together in the detail bag. The wedding day gets busy, and this keeps anyone from hunting down a ring when it’s time for photos
• Ask your florist for a few extra blooms and loose greenery. They’re perfect for styling your detail photos and making your invitation suite feel extra intentional

WEATHER ☔️
Please don’t spend your entire week worrying about the forecast.

Have a backup plan. Then let yourself be pleasantly surprised when Plan A works out.

A few things I recommend:
• Have clear umbrellas on hand
• Keep the receipt if you purchase them and think you may return them
• Talk through your rain plan ahead of time so you’re not making decisions in the middle of an emotional day
• And most importantly: fall in love with the inside of your venue, too.

Your wedding doesn’t become less beautiful because it rains. Sometimes the indoor spaces end up creating some of the most romantic photographs of the entire day.

MAKE TIME FOR SELF-CARE 🤍
Not just because you “have to.”

Because you deserve to.

Schedule time during the week before your wedding to slow down, breathe, get a massage, take a long walk, have dinner with your fiancé, turn your phone off—whatever actually helps you feel like yourself.

You’ve spent months (maybe years!) planning this day.

You deserve to arrive at your wedding feeling excited—not completely depleted.

And when the day finally comes?
Let yourself be there for it.
The flowers will fade. The timeline will move quickly. The little things may not go exactly according to plan.

But the way you felt standing beside the person you love?

That’s the part you’ll want to remember. 🤍

One of the biggest things I tell my couples: everything takes longer than you think it will on a wedding day. 🤍

Something that looks like it should take five minutes? I’m probably putting 15–20 minutes on the timeline.

Not because I want your day to feel slow or overly scheduled—but because I want you to have room to breathe.

Room for the anticipation before you walk down the aisle.

Room for your dad to take that extra second before he gives you away.

Room for the veil to be adjusted, the dress to be fluffed, the ch*****ne to be poured.

Room for the hug that wasn’t planned.

Room for you to actually feel what’s happening instead of immediately rushing to the next thing.

Your photographer can’t manufacture those moments if your timeline doesn’t give them anywhere to happen.

This is one of the biggest differences between a timeline that simply fits everything in and one that allows your wedding day to feel effortless.

For my couples, this is part of what you’re investing in: not just beautiful images, but a photography experience designed around space, anticipation, and the little in-between moments that make your day yours.

Because sometimes the most meaningful photograph happens in the 30 seconds we intentionally left open.
