“I found some old photos”

That’s the text my aunt sent me this morning along with a handful of photos from an old album. But it was this photo that stopped me in my tracks.

My grandmother, 24 years old, curled around my dad as a newborn — asleep in that sacred, exhausted way only mothers know.

I realized I’ve never seen a photo of her this young.
Never seen her in this season — the one I’m in now.

And suddenly, she wasn’t just “Mimi.”
She was a mother like me.
Awake at night.
Learning.
Pouring herself out.
Doing the holy, ordinary work of loving a baby the best she could.

It made me feel less alone.
Like a part of a lineage of women who have done this work long before I existed.
Like every tired night and tender morning is part of a story much bigger than mine alone.

And I only get to feel that connection because this moment was printed.

So don’t forget:
