The Department of Visual Arts at Greenville Technical College is proud to announce 34 Awards. These student works are the award winners from the GTC Department of Visual Arts' 2025 "Visual Arts Annual Student Exhibition" (VAASE). 34 Awards will open to the public beginning First Friday, February 6, with a reception from 6-9 pm and will continue every Wednesday through Saturday, 10-6 through February. These award-winning student works represent the best of the best from Greenville Tech's Department of Visual Arts (DVA). 52 Visual Arts students entered 138 works in DVA's annual fall juried competition. 55 works were juried into the 2025 "Visual Arts Annual Student Exhibition," and 34 were awarded cash prizes.

Many thanks to our 2025 VAASE juror, Denise Woodward-Detrich, the Director of Lee Gallery in the Department of Art at Clemson University and a ceramic artist herself. Denise took a day out of her busy schedule to view all the entries and choose works that comprised VAASE including 34 Awards now on view. She stated, "I've seen many artworks over the years, and I've always been impressed with the quality of work being produced by Greenville Tech students. The tradition of excellence within Greenville Tech's Department of Visual Arts is widely known!!"

VAASE awards were made possible by generous contributions from the Jean T. and Heyward G. Pelham Foundation, plus the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) with funds received from the City of Greenville, BMW
Manufacturing Company, SEW Eurodrive and the South Carolina Arts Commission. The MAC grant funds are matched by our 2025 corporate sponsors APCO Plastics, Bennetts' Frame & Art Gallery, Suburban Paint. and the Greenville Tech Foundation. Their generosity made it possible for us to double the total amount of cash awards from previous years. We appreciate Shaun McCallum demonstrating his enthusiasm for emerging artists by hosting 34 Awards at his Good Art Co.

Our January Member of the Month is Kali Passafiume.

"Kali Passafiume is a Navy veteran and photographer based in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Her work explores the beauty in the overlooked, drawing from lived experience with trauma, neurodivergence, and healing. Working primarily in high-contrast black-and-white and alternative processes, she creates images that reflect the emotional landscapes we often carry but rarely voice. Recently graduated from Greenville Technical College, she is now completing her BA in Studio Art at Converse University and preparing for graduate work in Art Therapy, where her practice continues to bridge visual storytelling and transformation."

Thank you for being a valued member of the SE Center for Photography, Kali!📷✨If you would like to check out more of Kali's work, head to our Linkin.bio.

I'm really happy to share some news! Recently my photo I took of a Lotus flower growing at a Buddhist temple from when I lived in Hawaii has been accepted into a photography exhibition on color!

Purples and lavenders are some of my favorite calming colors and to capture them on a lotus meant a lot to me! 🪷💜

If you'd like to check it out in person along with all the other beautiful color selections and additional photography exhibitions, please come out and support The Southeast Center for Photography right in downtown Greenville! 📷😍

Come see me at the opening the First Friday in July!
Exhibition Opens 7/5/24 with a Reception 6-8 PM and runs until 7/27/24
