Sinks of Gandy

In West Virginia there is a wilderness area called Dolly Sods. It is a favorite place of mine. The hiking is amazing. The views are phenomenal. Within the wilderness area is a particular tree that has become known as The Magic Tree. It is a tree that does not belong where it is located and has made its own space in the forest of Evergreeen trees.

I have photographed it many times including a wedding couple and their children using it as a background. I've used it as a backdrop for friends portraits and I have plenty of just the tree itself in different seasons. I recently went up to visit Dolly Sods and stopped to see the tree again. The sky was overcast which made for a horrible backdrop to the tree, but the lighting within the forest was perfect. I took my pictures and then worked a little digital magic on my computer and added northern lights resulting in this image. I think the result is my favorite so far.
