Rob Kenney lost his father who abandoned him when he was just 14 years old, leaving him to grow up without a dad to teach him basic life skills. Years later, as a father himself, Rob decided to create a YouTube channel called “Dad, How Do I?” to help others who might be in the same situation. According to CBS News and Today, the channel features simple, practical tutorials like how to tie a tie, change a tire, unclog a drain, or shave properly, all delivered with warmth, encouragement, and a fatherly tone.
The channel went viral in 2020, gaining millions of subscribers almost overnight. Rob’s mission wasn’t just to teach tasks, it was to offer emotional support and guidance to young people who feel alone. He often ends his videos with affirmations like “I’m proud of you” or “You’re doing great,” which many viewers say they never heard growing up.
