RIP Slammedenuff G*T π
As someone who has been going to car shows and meets for 25+ years, I knew this had H2Oi 2.0 written all over it.
Warnings from the city before the event, expected groups of cars and kids in every parking lot along the cruising strip, enough attention that the kids seeking attention, good or bad, would show up...
The writing was on the wall.
The days were pretty chill, busy but respectful.
The night though... got out of hand, fast. The busiest spots, Jimmy's, Cook-Out, Zoomers, quickly became overrun with people, not even with cars, hyping up the ruckus, burnouts, revving, chaos, takeover.
The few officers trying to have a good time and keep the peace were being taunted, disrespected, challenged. Kids getting in their face, climbing the gas pumps, the buildings. All it would take is one idiot with a π« or to light some β½ and it would've been absolute anarchy. Slammed cars, exotics, hoonigans, hoodrats, bikes, idiots. Cars racing down the strip at 120+, doing burnouts and donuts at every light, on top of the normal ridiculously low and loud cars. It was a recipe for disaster, anxiousness, and chaos.
I saw 100+ officers come in, neighboring counties, state highway, swat, gas masks, dogs, helicopter. They were outnumbered, anxious, scared, and could feel they were on the line of things getting out of hand. As a grown ass attendee that has seen situations like this get out of control due to a single idiot, I could feel the tension.
So that's a wrap for G*T. I don't see the city allowing Slammedenuff back. TBH, I could see them creating and enforcing new laws (car height, noise ordinance, etc.) to keep this crowd out, and that sucks as a whole for the car community. Let me know your thoughts and ideas on how we may be able to stop or slow down the enviable, but these larger meetup events seem like a recipe for disaster as it is.
