Y'all. It's graduation week! šŸŽ“šŸŽ“šŸŽ“

And it hits different when you're the one holding the camera for it.

Because it's not just one feeling. It's all of them at once. Pride and excitement and something that kind of aches a little, the quiet weight of a chapter closing. And it's not even my chapter. (I mean, it is — in a way. These families let me in during it, and that matters more than I can say.)
I've been watching these seniors walk into their sessions for the last several months. Nervous at first — some of them — and then something shifts. The camera disappears. They get comfortable. And for an hour or so, they just are exactly who they are right now, in this exact moment that won't exist again.

That's the thing about transitions, right? They're only this ambiguous in the living of them. Looking back, the line is always clear. But when you're in it — excitement and grief sitting right next to each other, neither one wrong — that's the real thing. That's what I want to hold for these families.

Not just a pretty photo. The in-between.

If you are a 2027 senior, my calendar Ibookimg up through December, so dont wait to get senior photyou afs actually obsessed with šŸ¤

Y’all. FIVE years with the Veach family and they drove across state lines to make it happen! šŸ™Œ

They came down from Indiana to Asheville for their spring break and said ā€œKelly, we want photos in the mountains.ā€ So naturally I sent them a trail map for Black Balsam K**b, warned them it was .8 miles straight up, that late March at this elevation means cold and wind, and oh by the way — their kids are 4 and 7. šŸ˜…

They didn’t even hesitate.

So up we went. All of us. And while we waited for the sun to drop low enough to make everything glow, we made a kitchen out of sticks and leaves and honestly, those kids could have stayed up there all day.šŸ§‘ā€šŸ³

Then the sun hit that ridge and everything went golden and I stopped breathing for a second. šŸŒž

We hiked back down in the dark with headlamps and handfuls of candy and two kids who earned every single piece of it. šŸ¬

This is what it looks like when a family shows up fully. When you stop trying to get a ā€œnice photoā€ and just actually make it an adventure together — that’s when the images hit different. These aren’t photos you forget about on your phone. These are the ones you frame.

If you want photos you can actually feel — the kind that make your heart do something on a random Tuesday when you walk past them on your wall — DM me. I’m booking family sessions now through November and I would love to make something like this with your family. šŸ”ļø

You’re not behind.

Most photographers were never taught how SEO actually works.

They were told to blog more.
Use keywords.
Optimize pages.

But without understanding how it all fits together, it just feels like guessing.

SEO changed my business completely.
It allowed my website to bring in consistent inquiries — without relying on social media.

And tomorrow, I’m opening access to the course I built to make it finally all make sense!

Show Up launches tomorrow and an early bird discount code for this weekend only will be available!

If SEO feels overwhelming, confusing, or like a foreign language—you’re not behind.

Most photographers are told to ā€œjust start bloggingā€ or ā€œadd keywords,ā€ without ever being taught what SEO actually is or how it fits into a real, working photography business.

So you try.
ļæ½And it still doesn’t click.
ļæ½And it starts to feel like you’re missing something everyone else already knows.

SEO isn’t about fancy terms or doing everything at once.

It starts with understanding how your future clients think, what they’re searching for, and how to meet them there—clearly and simply.

You don’t need to master SEO today.ļæ½You don’t need to optimize your entire website.ļæ½You don’t need another thing on your plate telling you you’re ā€œbehind.ā€

You just need a starting point that makes sense.

We’re working on something for photographers who want SEO to feel approachable—not intimidating.
ļæ½And it’s coming in 2 weeks šŸ¤

Family photos of my photog bestie and her crew — six years in a row now, and somehow it just keeps getting sweeter.

These people are truly treasures to me. They open their home to me when I’m back in Indiana photographing my longtime clients, and Vanessa and I Marco Polo almost daily about business, marketing, kids, life… all of it. She’s been a constant voice of support and honesty through every season.

I’m forever grateful for her friendship. In my early years of business, she believed in me, encouraged me to take big leaps, and reminded me that I was capable of more than I realized. She could’ve been a gatekeeper — the seasoned photographer keeping the new girl at arm’s length — but instead she welcomed me in, shared openly, and pulled up a seat at the table.

Her generosity, wisdom, and heart have shaped the trajectory of my life and business in the most beautiful way. Photographing her family year after year feels like the sweetest full-circle privilege. 🄹✨

Here’s to community over competition — and to the people who cheer us forward.

You know that moment when you're lovingly setting up the Scout Elf and thinking, ā€œWow, I’m really soaking up this sweet stage of motherhoodā€?

Yeah… that was me… right before the milk got spilled, Andrew knocked his dinner on the floor, sprinkles started flying like confetti, and gingerbread men were meeting a slow, sticky end šŸ˜…

Within an hour I went from nostalgic, memory-making mom to borderline meltdown mode. And honestly? I laughed about it later… but in the moment, whew.

That’s why I love photography. Not just because I get to give families peaceful, joy-filled images like these (even when life looks nothing like that behind the scenes). But because when I’m knee-deep in chaos, these kinds of photos remind me: Oh right. I DO love my kids.

Even when the sprinkles are stuck to the floor and my patience is on its last leg šŸ’›

Anyone else fall hard off the Instagram train lately? Like… not just missed a stop, but fully rolled down the hill and lost cell service?? šŸ˜…

I’ve got so many gorgeous fall sessions with teens and families I can’t wait to share—but between editing marathons, album deadlines, wall art design, studio renovations (why do I do this to myself?), and holiday prep… let’s just say IG has been politely waiting its turn. šŸ“øšŸ’»šŸ¦ƒšŸŽ„

Photographers—y’all hanging in there? Hydrated? Still speaking kindly to your Lightroom catalog? Emotionally dependent on your coffee? Same. šŸ˜‚

Honestly though, I’m dreaming of winter’s slower pace. Until then… it’s full steam ahead.

Drop a šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø if you're feeling this season too—and maybe also remind me to actually post more of these beautiful sessions soon...

Does the location or the outfits come first?
The classic ā€œchicken or the eggā€ of planning a photo session.

When I’m chatting with clients about their vision, I always ask what they’re imagining first. Because the truth is: outfits and location go hand-in-hand.

Think about it:
A sequined gown in a wheat field? Probably not the vibe.

But a soft, flowy dress that catches the breeze? Yes. Absolutely yes.

Just like a sleek city rooftop pairs beautifully with something a little more modern and structured.

So if you’re not sure where to start — you don’t have to pick one before the other. We’ll build the look and feel together. I’ll help guide your outfit choices and recommend locations that match, so the whole session feels cohesive, intentional, and beautiful.

Your photos should feel like you.
And I’m here to make sure every detail supports that ✨

Soft grasses. Golden light. Four boys just being boys.
It was simple and beautiful and full of those in-between moments I love.

A little styling note I always share with moms:
Start with your dress first.
When you feel confident and comfortable, the whole session shifts.
Then build around it with light neutrals and a couple soft patterns.
Skip the overly dark tones if you’re hoping for a timeless, neutral look — especially if you plan to print these images for your home.

This is how we create photos that don’t just look pretty right now…
They’ll feel like they’ve always belonged in your space. šŸ¤
