I have shared before that it was a total fluke that I ended up at Guilford College. I had a very tumultuous senior year in high school and in the chaos, Guilford was the only place I applied.

I now feel that there were a whole lot of angels aligning me to that place. It wasn't what I thought I wanted, but it was exactly what I needed.

I learned critical thinking skills, had my identity challenged and strengthened, gained new world perspectives, deepened my values, and made friendships that will last a lifetime.

Guilford has had its own challenges over the years. It's a hard time for higher ed in general.

But they/we have a new President to lead the charge, Jean Bordewich. I spent an afternoon-into-evening with her, touring the campus and photographing her for an upcoming issue of the Alumni Magazine. (Out now; check your email!)

I couldn't help but feel grateful and hopeful.

I was thrilled when Mitchell said he wanted to take his love, Casey, to the location of one of their first dates, Fisher Park, to propose.

My long lens had died, so I hurried up to buy a new one.

Casey said yes and I think I, myself, am glowing just from being around these two.

Big thanks to who allowed us to take portraits just after the down-on-one-knee.

Literally, once that ring slipped on, the whole world turned golden. I witnessed it!

Redefining Karen. A simple headshot session with options.

Typing this as I prepare to head out on a day trip to celebrate the birthday of a childhood friend who has had some significant health challenges. Makes the day extra sweet that we get to be together. Many years ago, a group of us deeply bonded through summers with a traveling Quaker choir. That, along with camps, letter writing, and weekends trading off at houses, we bonded in a deep, core, formative way.

You make certain promises to yourself and others when you are a kid, and it's important that you keep them.

I am so grateful for faith from a very young age. It gave me the exact foundation I needed. Here's Joy at her first communion, surrounded by a large team of family and friends. Each invested in her becoming the person she was put on this Earth to be.

It’s almost Summer! Well, technically 19 days or something. But personally, I’m here for hot weather.

This shoot is actually from January though, just outside Tulum, Mexico.

Carren and I bonded over being July babies, and a love for Kenyan culture. Her native land and a place I’ve only visited but pressed on me in a very meaningful way.

I still remember Kiswahili song lyrics, which Carren recognized.

Here’s to hot weather, unexpected connections, sweet aquatic adventures, and strutting your stuff, Baybees.
